Lake County News retracts Wounded Warriors Support Group lawsuit report

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – On Nov. 28, 2017, Lake County News published an article entitled “Attorney General Becerra releases ‘Guide for Charities’; Dec. 5 Webinar planned.”

The report quoted a press release issued by the California Attorney General and also attached materials issued by the attorney general.

The quote was: “He [the Attorney General] has filed a civil lawsuit seeking to recover hundreds of thousands of dollars from Wounded Warriors Support Group and Central Coast Equine Rescue and Retirement, two California charities claiming to support veterans.”

After receiving a request for a retraction on Feb. 28, 2018, Lake County News obtained a copy of the complaint the attorney general filed and, upon review, concluded that Lake County News’ report was not accurate.

The report and the attached materials have been removed from the site.

Although Lake County News has been advised by counsel and believes that its reporting committed no wrongdoing, Lake County News nevertheless apologizes to Wounded Warriors Support Group, Central Coast Equine Rescue and Retirement, Matthew J. Gregory, Matthew G. Gregory, Danella J. Gregory and Deena Danielle Gregory for any upset or inconvenience the report caused.
