LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County resident, Sam "Troy" Cunningham scored a gold medal trophy in the Arthur Murray Regional Showcase 2018.

Cunningham competed in 30 dance heats in a variety of dance styles from merengue, rumba, tango, waltz, foxtrot and more.

He was in the newcomer ranking and competed against dancers from 15 dance teams from throughout the Bay Area and beyond.

Cunningham has had a year and a half of dance study at the Santa Rosa Arthur Murray Studio, and made quite the splash as he is the first person with Down syndrome to compete at this level.

He performed with Isa Rios, a new instructor for him, but it mattered not a bit. The duo put on a great performance.
