LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Lake County Democratic Club welcomed two representatives from SEIU Local 2015 at its meeting on April 11.

SEIU is the union representing Lake County's In-Home Supportive Services, or IHSS, caregivers.

SEIU political organizers, Mario Fernandez and Raul Gardea spoke about the history of labor efforts as well as ongoing negotiations.

Fernandez represents the North Coast counties of Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino and Lake. He lives in Eureka but has roots in Lake County.

Gardea lives in Ukiah and organizes for Mendocino and Lake counties. Ceva Giumelli, a Lake County resident, is an orientation captain for SEIU Local 2015.

They gave a financial presentation to the Lake County Board of Supervisors at the April 17 meeting.

Lake County's 1,800 IHSS caregivers are the largest workforce in Lake County. Getting them higher wages will bring increased state and federal money into Lake County.

The Lake County Democratic Club meets the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the social hall of the Methodist Church, 16255 Second St., Lower Lake.

Club meetings are open to the public. Membership is open to registered Democrats. Lake County Democratic Club is an officially chartered club of the Democratic Party of Lake County.
