Groups, organizations participate in Memorial Day parade

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Perfect Holiday weather greeted the participants and crowds along Main Street in Lakeport for the annual Lakeport Memorial Day Parade on Saturday, May 26.

The entries were varied, colorful and very enthusiastic from beginning to end as they lived to the theme, “Honor America.”

SERVPRO of Lake, Mendocino and Sonoma counties was the 2018 Major Sponsor for the parade; Mendo Mill Lumber and Home Center provided the “stage” for the judges.

Paul Reading, whose wonderful voice has announced the parade for many years, graciously gave of his holiday time to present all the participant’s information as they came past the judges stage.

The Lake County Chamber of Commerce produces and organizes the parade every year, at least for the past three plus decades.

The 2018 judges were District 4 Supervisor Tina Scott, Lakeport City Manager Margaret Silveira and Lake County Chamber CEO Melissa Fulton.

It takes many volunteers to make the parade happen and as always Ginny Clinton, her husband Barry organized the line up at the Lake County Fairgrounds.

As a reminder to everyone reading this article, the lineup is much more complex than one might think. All sorts of considerations must be taken into account and the “lineup” at the fairgrounds prior to the parade beginning, is not in the 1-2-3 order but rather how the entries interact with each other, how large they are and many other factors.

Assisting the Clintons this year were Dianna Hendrick, Mike Gomes and Darren Hofdietz.

Critical to the success of the parade is the support of Lakeport Public Works, Lakeport Police and their great volunteers who once again did a great job.
