Still time to register for the second annual Senior Summit on June 23

LAKEPORT, Calif. – An exciting program is lined up for the all-day conference dedicated to Lake County seniors and elders on June 23 and there’s still time to register.

The event is being held at the Konocti Vista Resort and Casino located on 2755 Mission Rancheria Road in Lakeport. Doors open at 9 a.m. for registration. The program begins at 10 a.m.

The event is free to seniors 62 and above.

The charge for non-seniors is $10 for a full day of activities including lunch, speakers, awards, workshops, raffles, a vendor fair and entertainment by David Neft, the Clear Lake Clikkers and the Sweet Adelines.

This year’s program will include a panel of speakers led by Crystal Markytan, director of Lake County Social Services. Accompanying Crystal will be Micky Dolby, deputy director of the Area Agency on Aging and Housing Authority; Amber Davis, deputy director of Adult Protective Services, In Home Support and the Public Guardian’s Office; and Rachael Dillman of CalFresh for Seniors.

Markytan and her staff will be available throughout the day to answer questions and provide individual assistance to participants.

Also featured in the afternoon session is a vendor fair including some 20 vendors and service providers who cater to the needs of seniors.

Two workshops are also being offered. Training for nonprofit boards will focus on fundraising and board member roles and responsibilities. A second workshop will feature two Lake County inspirational seniors, Gene Paleno and Victor Vicente. Paleno is a well-known local author of 14 books and Vicente is a two-time Olympian.

The Senior Summit is a project of the Lake County Silver Foundation, a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity created to raise funds to help fund senior center and other programs that support Lake County seniors.

Sponsors for this years program include Konocti Vista Resort and Casino, the venue host; Pacific Gas and Electric, the major event sponsor; Calpine at the Geysers; the Clearlake Oaks-Glenhaven Business Association; Lake County Hospice Services; Konocti Computers; and County Supervisor Jim Steele.

This is the first event to be held at the newly expanded and upgraded resort and casino. Tribal Chairman Anthony Jack, said, “With the completion of our facility expansion, we are happy to be a part of an effort that highlights the contributions of our elders and seniors and brings information and resources on a day expressly dedicated to them.”

The first 200 to register will receive a nice conference bag and pen. Seating is limited and registrations at the door are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
