Street closures, parking restrictions planned for June 30 criterium race




LAKEPORT, Calif. – On Saturday, June 30, the RPP Hobby Lakeport Twilight Criterium Bicycle Race event will take place in downtown Lakeport.

To facilitate the event and allow bicycle racing on Main Street to Armstrong Street to Forbes Street to Fourth Street and back to Main Street, the following street closures and parking restrictions will be in place.

Street closures

Main Street between the north edge of Martin Street and the south edge of Fifth Street will be closed to vehicles from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Martin Street will remain open.

Fifth Street east of Main Street will be open for vehicles needing to access the city boat launch ramps, Library Park and Park Street. No vehicle access to Main Street in the closure area will be allowed.

Forbes Street between the north edge of Martin Street and the south edge of Fifth Street will be closed from 10 a.m. to about 11 p.m.

Fifth Street west of Forbes Street will be open for persons needing to access residences in this area.

No vehicle access to Forbes Street in the closure area will be allowed.

A detour route around the closure area will be available between Fifth and Martin streets.

Armstrong Street, First Street, Second Street, Third Street and Fourth Street between Main and Forbes streets will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to about 11 p.m.

Parking restrictions

No vehicles shall be left parked in any of the above described closure areas after 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, and any left are subject to immediate tow away by the police department.

This restriction shall remain in place until all streets are reopened to traffic at about 11 p.m.

No parking will be permitted along Fifth Street between N. Forbes and N. Estep streets to ensure sufficient access for emergency vehicles and residents to the neighborhoods west of the Forbes Street closure area.

Additional information

All Lakeport businesses in the closure can be accessed by pedestrians.

Persons needing to access the city south of Martin Street are advised to use Lakeport Boulevard off of Highway 29.

Persons needing to access the city north of Fifth Street are advised to use 11th Street off Highway 29.

The city is working with the Soper-Reese Theatre on a traffic/parking plan for the event that will take place there between 7 and 9 p.m., during the same time the bicycle racing is still in progress.

Electronic message boards are expected to be placed on both Lakeport Boulevard and 11th Street advising of the bike race and street closures.

No parking tow away signs were placed throughout the closure area on Thursday evening.

The Lakeport Police Department and Lakeport Public Works Department will have units onsite for traffic control and safety throughout the day.

Public parking for the event is available east of Main Street in the lakefront city parking lots and on Park Street near City Hall.
