LAKEPORT, Calif. – Being the week before the 16th president’s 210th birthday, it is an appropriate time to consider Abraham Lincoln, his accomplishments, his speeches and his legacy.
That’s what the Lake County History Roundtable will do on Monday, Feb. 4.
The group will meet at 6:15 p.m. at 460 S. Main St. in Lakeport.
Admission is free.
Lincoln’s accolades are numerous. He’s called "The Great Emancipator," "Honest Abe," and "Savior of the Union," among other honored titles.
Was he our greatest president? Did he have flaws? How much of what we know is real, and how much of it is myth?
Zane Jensen will be focusing on Lincoln on the days leading up to the war and his decisions that led to our nation's most devastating war, while Phil Smoley will review some of Lincoln's accolades and dig down to see what the basis of them are.
