Police: Beware of scammers pretending to be Social Security



LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Police Department is urging community to beware of scammers who are presenting to be with the Social Security Administration.

Police said the scam has been hitting Lakeport this week.

The scammers are attempting to get people to share their personal information, according to police.

It’s believed that the current group being targeted is elderly people who are receiving Social Security benefits, police said.

If you get these calls, immediately hang up. Do not give out any information.

Those who receive the calls are asked to report them to the Office of the Inspector General at 800-269-0271 or online at https://oig.ssa.gov/report.
