Volunteer week planned on Grindstone Ranger District Aug. 12 to 18

MENDOCINO NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. – The Grindstone Ranger District of the Mendocino National Forest will hold a week-long volunteer event starting Monday, Aug. 12.

During the week, volunteers will be able to help restore areas impacted by the 2018 Ranch fire.

Work will involve brushing trails, moving signs, removing burned barriers, digging post holes, removing rebar and installing trail markers.

Volunteers are required to bring their own personal protective equipment such as long pants, boots, long sleeves, ear plugs, hard hats, gloves and goggles.

Volunteers will meet at the Fouts maintenance yard at 9 a.m. All volunteers must check in and out of this location. The entire Fouts area is open if volunteers want to camp.

Volunteering provides a great opportunity to improve forests, learn about resource management and meet new people.
