Prescribed burning scheduled in Ukiah area

NORTH COAST, Calif. – Cal FIre’s Mendocino Unit will be conducting a large broadcast burn, on the west side of the Ukiah Valley on Thursday, March 5, and Friday, March 6.

This prescribed burn will begin at approximately 10 a.m. and conclude at approximately 5 p.m. each day. Smoke, flames, and aircraft will be visible.

The Cal Fire Priority Ukiah Fuels Reduction Project is designed to increase public safety by
thinning impacted vegetation. The thinning will assist in reducing the number of fire starts and
decrease the size and intensity of fires.

Due to the recent history of large destructive fires in our county, and the buildup of vegetation, this project is of the utmost importance.

This burn will be conducted under very tight restrictions for the personal safety of firefighters and area residents.

If there are any indications that the burn cannot be conducted in a safe manner, such as high winds or local fire activity, the burn will be canceled.

Cal Fire reminds all residents that their safety is of utmost concern.

For prescribed burning notifications, residents are encouraged to follow the Cal Fire Mendocino Unit on Twitter and Facebook.
