Middletown ‘Broom Busters’ event planned for March 27

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – Help prepare the community of Middletown for fire season in a special event planned for later this month.

The Middletown “Broom Busters” event will take place on Saturday, March 27, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Middletown Area Town Hall, South Lake County Fire Protection District, South Lake Fire Safe Council, Listos California and North Coast Opportunities' Emergency Preparedness in Community are partnering in presenting the event.

The mission is to clear the scotch broom from St. Helena Creek, from the bridge across from the Calpine Visitor Center to the creek bridge on Highway 29.

Meet in the Perry’s Deli parking lot at 9 a.m. or find them along the creek.

Bring gloves, shears, water and chainsaws (some broom is very thick).

Those without tools are invited to bring gloves and come anyway as there will be plenty to do.

There will be a free drive-thru boxed lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Middletown South Lake Fire Station on Highway 175. Free emergency preparedness materials also weill be provided.
