Peters: Thanks to those who helped with Clearlake parade

Clearlake Christmas Light Parade on Saturday, Dec. 5, was a wonderful community event, featuring many parade floats of light. This year's theme was “Christmas in Paradise.”


After the parade children and families visited with Santa and Mrs. Claus with the help of Davis Photography, Lakeshore Lions and Lioness provided cocoa and cookies, and a very special Christmas tree lighting by Lake County Hospice.


This years event was taped by TV8 and Carle High School so you can enjoy this event several times throughout the month of December.


The city of Clearlake, Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce and Lake County Hospice collaborated to host this festive event, with many thanks to the following to make this event wonderful: Americorps, Carle High School, City of Clearlake's Public Works Department, Davis Photography, musician Dennis Chrisp, Judge Richard and Mrs. Freeborn, Thomas Hewlett DDS, Jones & Lewis Chapel, Judy Thein, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard, Lakeshore Lions and Lioness of Clearlake, Lakeshore Fire, Lower Lake High School Jazz Bands and Choir, Mendo Mill, PEG Channel TV8, Russ Cremer and Family, Shore Line Realty, and the many chamber members and volunteers!

DeAmicis: TV8 isn't un-American

Bev Owens' TV8 viewing experience gives me an opportunity to explain what a public access station is all about.


A cable public access station is what is known as a “designated public forum” – the proverbial soap box in the park or rant on the courthouse steps.


A public forum is open to all local residents for any legal and noncommercial use. What is seen on TV8 represents 100 percent of all legal content that residents want to show to the public. No one is turned away. If your interests aren't there it's because you or someone like you didn't submit a video expressing them to TV8.


There is no way anything on TV8 can be un-American. In the context of the democratic process, a pro-American position is any that is offered honestly for consideration and debate.


The un-American stand is one that is promoted while advocating that dissenting voices be silenced.
