Opinion
In these very unusual times, many thoughts go through my mind. A central one is regarding the education of our young people. We need to step up and make sure our kids are not missing essential learning.
We have very dedicated teachers/educators working day and night to make sure their students receive the best education possible in these challenging times.
It is often difficult for these teachers to adapt to the new methods of teaching, but they do it because they recognize the importance of their jobs.
As a 21-year former member of the Lake County Board of Education, I commend our many teachers/educators for their dedication.
It is very important to have county supervisors who demonstrate a commitment to our schools and children and are innovative with solutions to help Lake County move forward.
I have cast my vote for Jessica Pyska for District 5 supervisor.

It is so disappointing for me to see Bill Kearney’s latest letter to the editor (Kearney: Wanting to make Lake an even better county, Oct. 20).
Kearney states, "I didn't send the negative flyer recently. My campaign did ..." Shouldn't someone running for an important office know what they are mailing out to the citizens of Lake County? Not taking responsibility for his own mailing is alarming.
He then goes on to blame his opponent's committee for interfering with his radio show. FCC guidelines are quite clear and require equal air time for all candidates. It is common practice for candidates who host radio programs to step away from their radio shows while campaigning for a public office. I'm sure he can resume his talk show on Nov. 4, blaming others shows a lack of awareness of what is involved in running for and holding a public office.
Running a winning campaign requires putting in the time and effort to understand in-depth the issues that impact the community and developing innovative, workable approaches. It’s not enough to just bring up issues – a candidate must be able to offer informed solutions and lead teams to successfully implement them. It takes relevant experience and hard work.
I am very impressed with Jessica Pyska's ideas, work and vision that were communicated in the candidate forum. Jessica Pyska is a highly qualified and prepared candidate for supervisor.
Kearney raising false allegations repeatedly, not taking responsibility for his campaign’s actions, and promoting issues without giving specifics on solutions is not a winning formula to sway Lake County District 5 voters.
That’s why I am so enthusiastically supporting Jessica Pyska for supervisor for District 5.

This is Bill Kearney, and I am writing in reply to the negative letters I have read on social media and in the newspapers lately about my opponent, Jessica Pyska.
I didn’t send the negative flyer recently. My campaign did, but nothing is negative about what she does, and all the help with the children. She should be very proud of what she does.
No one talked negative when her committee destroyed my “Health Talk” show for 35 years. That show was strictly about health and never about politics. It was strictly about helping people with their medication and encouraging them to seek professional help if they needed. I don’t now and never have tried to pass myself off as a doctor, but pharmacists do have a Bachelor of Science doctor degree.
There wasn’t any negative comment when my Tango Mike benefit was going to be held, except from a committee member of her campaign, and it had to be cancelled.
Look. I hate politics. I have no problem with Jessica and I wish her the best. I am very proud of what my wife Dana and I have done to make this an even better county. I thought what way we could make the most benefit with the time I have left? I am very proud of all WE have accomplished in the last 40 years. We have put a lot of time, energy and money to try and make this a better county for us to retire and live in.
If elected I want to continue doing what I’ve done in the past. I am not running for the benefits or help climb the political ladder. I want to see the Black Forest cleaned up to deter fires. I want to see a new fire house in Buckingham to make the Konocti area, Riviera West, Buckingham, Rivera Heights and Soda Bay safer from fires. I want to see Cobb Mountain get back to its natural beauty. I want to see Kelseyville, Lakeport and surrounding communities continue to thrive and flourish. I want to see new businesses want to come here and bring more positivity to our community.
This has been my home for the past 40 years, and I intend it to be my home until my time has run out. I want to see continued growth, prosperity and continue to be an amazing place to raise families and to grow old.

As a former school principal and as the former Lake County superintendent of schools, I have had the opportunity to watch Jessica Pyska in her role of Garden Education Program coordinator.
She has created a wonderful hands-on learning and teaching environment for the students and teachers at Cobb Mountain Elementary School.
Her success in collaborating with the classroom teachers on meeting learning goals for students at Cobb Mountain Elementary School and her ability to coordinate the efforts of her fellow garden teachers and community volunteers has been the key to the success of the garden education program.
Jessica’s ability to collaborate with those around her and coordinate everyone’s efforts in meeting a common goal are skills we need in our District 5 supervisor!
Today I voted for Jessica Pyska and I ask you to join me and vote for Jessica Pyska!
