Jerry Lynn “Penguin” Standridge passed away on Feb. 13, 2016, at the age of 61.

He was born on Wednesday, March 24, 1954, to John Lee and Lula Mae Lewis Standridge in Mena, Ark.

He lived in Lake County for 29 years and just two weeks prior to his passing had moved back to Arkansas from the town of Nice, Calif., to spend his final moments in the Mena, Ark., family home surrounded by the love of his family.

Jerry was compassionate, forgiving and good-natured. He was a man who always enjoyed life, staying active and enjoyed playing games of chance, whether it was putting jigsaw puzzles together, betting on the horses, playing Yahtzee, or going to the casino. His love of “Rock N Roll” music was intoxicating and always loud even in his final days.

In his younger days Jerry narrowly survived a motorcycle accident that left him with limited mobility and strength. However, you never heard him complain about his physical disability and “handicapped” was never a word in his vocabulary.

When a total stranger needed help to carry heavy groceries to her vehicle he was always lending a hand and assisting others and opening his home to help people “down on their luck.” He was always a true gentleman with a big heart. He was loved by many in Lake County.

Jerry was a loving brother, uncle and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.

Jerry is survived by his two brothers, Ronald Standridge and Robert Standridge, and two sisters, Sarah Weber and Brenda (Gene) Wilson, all of Mena, Ark.; nieces and nephews, Lisa, Kristie, Melissa, Leilani, Jennifer, Desiree, John, Shannon, April and J.C.; several great nieces and nephews, Sarah, James, Carrie, Timothy, Dane, Kendyl, Orion, Hannah, Kaden, Jeremiah, Kory, Kristopher, Dylan and Kamiyah; one great-great niece, Angelica; and a host of other relatives and many lifelong friends.

Graveside services were held on Sunday. Feb. 14, at the Hillside Cemetery in Sulphur Springs, Ark. As was Jerry’s final wish he was laid to rest beside his mother and father, John and Lula Standridge.
