UPPER LAKE, Calif. – The community is invited to a celebration of life for Dr. Patricia Nelson, DVM, on Sunday, Aug. 17.
A service will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a potluck and the sharing of stories taking place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Upper Lake County Park, 575 East Highway 20.
Nelson's dedicated practice of veterinary medicine served Lake County's animals and pet owners for nearly 50 years.
The service will begin promptly at 10 a.m. with a short eulogy by Assistant Pastor Gary Lewis of the United Methodist Church.
Dr. Pat’s cousin, Carolyn Holt, is traveling from Esparto to speak. John H. Tomkins will be singing “Amazing Grace.”
After the ceremony, there will be an opportunity for members of the community to share what Dr. Pat Nelson did for their animals and pets.
In Dr. Nelson's Honor, donations will be gladly accepted for SPCA, Wasson Memorial Veterinary Clinic (for wildlife rescue) and Lake County Animal Care & Control.
If you have a pet, please bring photos to share; however, the event organizers ask that guests leave their pets and alcoholic beverages at home.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Dixie Lee Porter passed away on July 13, 2014, in Lakeport at the age of 83.
Dixie was born in Bountiful, Utah to Ida May (Robinson) and Jim Loyol Mathis.
She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Haskins Bowen of Texas.
Dixie was a scholar, receiving numerous oratory awards in school and completing a bachelor’s of science and a master’s degree program at UC Berkeley. She wrote two books which were not published.
While living in the Bay Area, Dixie helped establish animal rescue programs, including “The Rescuers” in Los Gatos.
A resident of Perk’s Mobile Home Park, along with her cats, Dixie enjoyed the deer and birds that visited often.

Dixie was an advocate for seniors and veterans in Lake County, working to improve access to services and transportation. Dixie was an active member of the Social Services Transportation Advisory Council.
She was a frequent passenger of Lake Transit, and was well known by many of the bus drivers.
She was an avid Republican and involved with many organizations over the years including Toys for Tots, The Women’s Memorial Foundation, United Fund and the Humane Society.
Dixie served in the United States Marines during the Korean War. She will be interned at Veterans Circle at Hartley Cemetery in Lakeport with full military honors.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Theonella Dodd Bodiford, born in Iowa Sept. 14, 1921, left us on July 29, 2014.
From Iowa to California and occasionally Japan, Theo worked hard and loved even harder.
She was the strongest woman anybody ever knew and adored by all who met her.
She is survived by two sisters, eight children, 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held a Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Clearlake at 11 a.m. Friday Aug. 8.
