Florence Halfen entered the glory of Heaven Jan. 6, 2014, in Redding, Calif.

She was born in Wilmington, Delaware on Sept. 18, 1920.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Marvin Halfen, on Nov. 16, 1987.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol of Auburn, Calif., and Barbara of Redding; four grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

LUCERNE, Calif. – Lorraine Blair passed away Dec. 27, 2013, at her Lucerne home with her family by her side.

Born and raised in Iowa, she moved to California in the late 1940s and became a licensed vocational nurse.

She was the beloved mother of Ed, Steve and Dave.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her son, Tony.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Dorothy Lee Mack Bradshaw, age 81, of Clearlake passed away on Jan. 1, 2014.

She was born on March 1, 1932, in Hastings, Fla., to Isreal and Alice Daniels.

She eventually moved to Buffalo, New York where she worked for 30 years at the Buffalo State Hospital. Dorothy later relocated to Lake County, Calif.

Dorothy belonged to the US Bowling Association, the Evening Star, the Masonic Lodge and served as a deacon.

Dorothy leaves behind two daughters, Rose M. Mack and Bernice (Lamar) Lacy, both of Clearlake; son, David Bradshaw of Buffalo, NY; sister, Barbara (Bobby) Alexander of San Leandro; brother, Clarence Daniels of Miami, Fla.; nieces: Dawn Robinson of Los Angeles and Dana (Troy) Roberts of Antioch; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Timothy Bradshaw, and her sons, Bruce Clay and Daniel Bradshaw.

A visitation will be help on Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with the funeral service set for noon on Thursday, Jan. 9, to be followed by the committal service at Lower Lake Cemetery.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Arthur “Art” Nunes, born April 13, 1916, passed away at St. Helena Hospital on Dec. 29, 2013, at the age of 97.

A veteran of World War II, Art served in the Army as a rifleman during the European campaigns and was honorably discharged in September 1945.

While in the service, he was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the American Defense Service Medal.

Art and his deceased wife, Dorothy, moved to Lakeport, Calif., in 1975 from San Jose after he retired from Ford Motor Co.

Art loved spending all the time he could on outdoor projects including fishing, but his true love was his garden. He was famous for growing some of the biggest and best tomatoes in the county.

Art also was a big 49ers fan. He loved to spend his weekends watching football. When it came to family and friends, Art would always make time for barbecues, parties and any social event that would mean a good time.

Art also gave back to the community by volunteering his time in providing medical deliveries to homebound seniors.

A past master of Hartley Masonic Lodge No. 199, art was involved in fundraisers like Reno bus trips and yard sales. Part of the funds raised went to scholarships within the local community.

As a Shriner, Art helped to sponsor several children to the Shriners' Hospital for Children in Sacramento. Art also helped out as Rainbow Dad for the Rainbow Girls and served with the Eastern Star.

Art's generosity and kindness were boundless. He would go out of his way to help those he could within his means. He would socialize with anyone he met and make friends wherever he went. Art will be greatly missed by his family, friends, brethren and neighbors.

Art is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and son, Kenny.

He is survived by his brother, Theodore; son, Dale; daughters, Debbie Chavez, Sandy Reynolds and Diane Langley; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Art's sense of humor and goodwill touched many lives and he will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, Lakeport with Rosary at 6 p.m. Funeral Mass at St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8.

Inurnment with Masonic and Lake County Military Honor Team will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Hartley Cemetery, Lakeport.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Luther Murlin Sweigert II, aka Sonny, passed away on Dec. 22, 2013, in Clearlake.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Mary Sweigert of Clearlake; his children, Rachel Burks and Luther M. Sweigert III; grandchildren, Emma Burks, Beau Burks and Luther M. Sweigert IV, all of Sacramento. He also leaves behind his two beloved companions, his dogs Lady and Tess.

Born in Washington< DC to Luther and Mable Sweigert, Sonny also was a former resident of Vacaville.

In 1971, Sonny enlisted in the Marine Corps where he spent two years in active duty. He was a proud veteran, at one time serving as post commander for the American Legion Post 437 and was currently in the role of finance officer.

He was employed by the California Department of Corrections for 28 years and is still considered a part of the CDC “family.”

An inurnment graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Lower Lake Cemetery.

Following the graveside service, there will be a short service and reception at the American Legion Post 437, commencing at 11 a.m.

1922-2013

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Dorothy Carter was born in Cavour, South Dakota, on April 7, 1922. On December 26, 2013, at the age of 91, she was called Home to heaven to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ.

She and her husband Jack have lived in Lakeport since 1977.

Dorothy had a full life – sorrows, great joy and much laughter. She never knew a stranger and loved all without reservation.

She was greatly loved in return. A great many folks claimed her as “Mom” or “Grandma.”

She was preceded in death by her daughter Irene Wilson. Dorothy leaves behind her beloved husband of 72 years, Jack; daughter, Jackie; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She will be missed by nieces and nephews, countless number of friends and her church family at Clearlake Baptist Church.
