Dennis Ray Harmon, 71, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2013, at UVMC in Ukiah, Calif.

He was born to Verlyn and Ruth Harmon on Nov. 14, 1941, in Ukiah.

Dennis grew up in Kelseyville, Calif., where he attended Kelseyville schools.

One of his hobbies in his younger days was racing cars at Lakeport Speedway. He drove truck for Helms Petroleum and Clearlake Lava.

He worked as a deputy sheriff and later, sergeant for Lake County Sheriff’s Office from the late 1960s until he retired out of the boat patrol Division in 1998. He took pride in mentoring the new patrol deputies.

He and his wife Barbara bought property and moved to Grangeville, Idaho, seven years ago. He and Barb loved traveling in surrounding states visiting friends, sightseeing and taking beautiful photos. They traveled with their dogs Taco and Pepper.

He loved woodworking and gave many beautiful boxes away to family and friends. Some other hobbies included hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and black powder shoots with his brother David.

He made visits down to Lake County and he and Barbara enjoyed staying in their travel trailer at Cache Creek. His favorite place to be was his beloved “Cabbage Patch” in Lake Pillsbury. He sometimes served as resident deputy there, using the family property as “base camp.”

Dennis had a heart of gold. He loved visits from family and friends and had “more stories than you could shake a stick at.”

He was preceded in death by this mother and father, and niece Seneid Harmon.

He leaves behind his wife, Barbara; daughters, Janet (Brenndon) Bosse of Kelseyville, Lisa (Hank) Owen of Marshfield, Mo., Kimberly (Bill) O’Donnell of Rohnert Park, Calif., Jennifer (David) Plaza of Morgan Hill, Calif; brother, David (Nancy) Harmon of Grangeville, Idaho; stepsons, Chris (Marta) Nelson of Iowa, Richard Caparelli (Jamie) of Nevada and Casey Jones (Tracy) of Redding, Calif; mother-in-law, Margo Pedroli of Clearlake Oaks, Calif; grandchildren, Carolyn, Jessicca, Garrett, Mary, Spencer, Howard, Lily, Billie, Malyn, Isaaih, Rachel and April and Andrew; nephew, Brett (Sam) and daughters Kendra and Hailey of Clarkston, Wash.; niece, Heather Mc Frederick (Jeff) and children Jack David and Jarrett of Grangeville, Idaho. He also leaves great-grandchildren Damion, Simona, Cece, Angelica and David.

Heartfelt thanks to family friend Frank Houston for all of the selfless help for Denny these past weeks and to his many friends who visited and called him while in the hospital. Dennis will be missed by his many friends and family more that he will ever know.
