LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — A pebble tossed into a placid pond sends out many ripples that steadfastly move to the shoreline, the ripples making their acquaintance with all things there.
This is how Susie lived her life. She brought joy to those in despair, happiness to the sad, food and drink to the hungry and a blanket to the cold.
Susie never knew a stranger, her bright smile and fresh energy would make you feel right at home — happy to know her. Susie was a great listener and always remembered something special about those she met. She loved to give special gifts to people, just to brighten their day, there was no occasion nor person that she missed.
Born on May 28, 1962, in Vineland, New Jersey, Susie spent most of her childhood growing up on the farm in the swamps of Florida; she would talk about walking to the school bus passing frogs, snakes and occasionally alligators.
She spoke fondly of her grandparents, Warren and Lillian, whose strength had a profound influence on her.
Elaine, Susie’s mother, was a Pan Am employee in the seventies and eighties and was able to get flight passes on the cheap and as such she and Susie were able to fly around the world, Istanbul, Turkey being a favorite, then Hong Kong and Austria where as a teen Susie was able to do some incredible skiing.
Susie was very proud of her Scottish heritage and would talk fondly of the fierce Gordon clan of Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
One of Susie’s pleasures in life was preparing artful and flavorful meals for her friends and family at which time her French heritage would take forefront, making wonderful sauces with wine and occasionally putting wine in the sauce.
Susie was a fiercely devoted wife, a best friend, superb travel partner, confidant, warm and intelligent. She loved her family and would do anything for them, she was a loving mother and a mother well loved, she was a dutiful daughter, beloved sister, and favorite aunt and cousin. She was a tender and doting grandmother.
One of Susie’s favorite sayings was: “Life is beautiful, enjoy what you have.”
On Oct. 11, 2022, Susie was raised up from this world by the arms of our loving Father where she is a faithful soul for God as she was here for us.
Susie is survived by her loving husband, Doug Van Horn; daughter, Ashley (Seth) Cook; son, Daniel Smith; stepdaughter, Alexia Wiles; father, Arthur Almond Fresne; mother, Elaine Pyper Fresne; sisters, Jane Fresne and Marion, Mare Mare (Brian) Johns; grandchildren, Jaxyn and Scarlett and many nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly.
We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 1 Thessalonians 4:14 TNIV.
A celebration of life for Susie will be held March 25, starting at noon at the Middletown Lions Club, 15399 Central Park Road.

Shirley Dea Saderlund passed away peacefully after a long illness on Feb. 8, 2023, in Dawson Springs, Kentucky with her daughter by her side.
Shirley was born on Jan. 10, 1938, in Clarinda, Iowa.
Shirley lived in Kelseyville, California, with her parents Roy and Crystal Walker most of her life. She attended Kelseyville schools and graduated in 1956 from Kelseyville High School. It was in high school that she met her husband, Donald Saderlund, and they married shortly after high school.
Shirley and Don traveled to many different areas of the world including Hawaii, Africa and Massachusetts during Don’s 25 year career in the Air Force.
Once Don retired from the Air Force they moved back to Kelseyville and Shirley worked for Cal Farm Insurance in Lakeport. She eventually joined Don in retirement, where they continued to travel in their motor home to see friends and family.
Shirley loved gardening and would bring beautiful flower arrangements to the Kelseyville Methodist Church every Sunday. She enjoyed raising her Koi fish and she volunteered on the Kelseyville Cemetery Board and at the Kelseyville Methodist Church thrift shop.
During retirement Shirley and Don spent their time making crafts and wood products for the Saturday Farmers Market at Steele Winery, where Shirley was a true social butterfly.
Upon Don’s passing, Shirley was cared for by her children and grandchildren, and spent her later years at her daughter’s farm in Kentucky where she was most comfortable.
Shirley is predeceased by her parents, Roy and Crystal Walker; husband, Donald Saderlund; and son, Roy Saderlund.
Our loving, beautiful mother leaves behind her son, Robert Saderlund and wife Cathy; daughter, Donna Hall and her husband, Dan; and daughter, Angela Wendland. Shirley was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Kelseyville Cemetery on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 12:30 p.m.

Dolor Myles Zachman (Zach)
Dec. 23, 1942 — Dec. 29, 2022
LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Dolor Myles Zachman, who went by Myles Zachman and was lovingly referred to by friends as “Zach,” passed away in Clearlake, California, where he lived for over 18 years.
Born in San Francisco, California, to Dolor and Jewel Zachman, he lived in the Ingleside neighborhood until the late 1950s when he and other family members relocated to Clearlake.
In 1970 Myles signed up with the Army and was honorably discharged in 1974.
Myles spent his adult years living in the Bay Area doing what he loved as a career and hobby. He was a diesel truck mechanic graduate, and a truck driver.
His hobbies included racing and football. He was a die-hard San Francisco 49er fan and you could find him racing his 1970 Chevelle on the ¼ mile track on any given weekend.
In his later years he had picked up another love of life in the Hallmark Channel! His children were known to tease him about his new love often but, in reality knew it alluded to the loving, sweet-hearted man those who loved him knew him to be. He will truly be missed.
Myles is predeceased by his son Dolor Myles Zachman Jr. and his younger brother Richard “Dick” Zachman.
Myles is survived by his sister, Diane; sister-in-law, Sharon; and his three daughters, Jewlie, Tracy and Rachel.
He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Jessica, Myla, Azure, Ella, Cade, Sienna, Amber and Serenity; and two great-grandchildren, Victoria and Jackson.
