LAKEPORT, Calif. – Robert Boccabella, certified interior designer, will speak at the Lakeport branch of Lake County Library about how to handle changes when an interior design project has been knocked off balance.

He will speak at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27.

Boccabella’s program, “Designing to Fit the Vision: Addressing Interior Design Challenges,” will cover questions that many people in Lake County are now facing. Lives have been turned upside down and people are struggling to rebuild their lives and their homes.

This program is free and open to the public.

“A disaster can be as big as the Lake County wildfires, or as 'small' as a change in relationships, a tragic personal event or a major change in work or career. When such things land in your life, funding suffers. Sometimes, agreements you depended on fall apart,” Boccabella said.

Boccabella is an expert when it comes to re-grouping, re-thinking, and re-planning interior design projects that have been knocked off balance.

The library is located at 1425 N. High St.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Friends of the Lake County Library is offering a new program through which you can adopt a book for any of its four branches.

You may pick up a form by going in to your closest branch or by visiting www.friendsofthelakecountylibrary.org and filling out a form online.

Gifts are $25 for each book. You may choose which branch receives the gift as well as the collection and occasion.

Collection choices are adult fiction or nonfiction, children's or young adult.

Occasion choices are for birthdays, anniversaries, in memoriam or in honor of. You also may designate the format of a book, DVD or audio book.

In return you will receive a thank you letter, a receipt, and a copy of the bookplate to be attached to your chosen book.

All donations are tax-deductible.

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – Interim Public Services Director Kim Clymire announced that the county's Parks Division is seeking applicants for one lead lifeguard and one lifeguard for the Middletown Pool for the summer season.

The pool summer season is tentatively scheduled to run from June 15 to Aug. 14.

Special requirements for this position are the possession of a current lifeguard certificate, community cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate (eight hours), standard first aid certificate (eight hours), and emergency medical service authority certificate (eight hours) or acquire EMSA certificate prior to June 1, 2016. 

Lifeguard applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older. Special requirements for the lead lifeguard applicants are to be at least 18 years of age or older and possession of a water safety instructor certification is preferred.

Director Clymire encourages all qualified individuals interested in becoming a lifeguard for the Middletown Pool this coming summer season, to call 707-262-1618 or come in to the Public Services Department at 333 Second St. in Lakeport to apply.

On Tuesday, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, Davis, Yuba City) announced his intention to introduce legislation in the House of Representatives that would address California’s prolonged drought.

The bill, which mirrors legislation introduced by Senator Feinstein, would authorize $1.3 billion for long-term water solutions and short-term drought relief, all without violating California’s landmark environmental laws.

“The California drought legislation that has passed the House of Representatives so far would cause irreparable damage to the ecology of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, all without creating the long-term storage and infrastructure California needs to ensure the reliability of our water supply,” said Garamendi.

“I am introducing this legislation because the House has not done its job to find a solution that treats all stakeholders fairly while respecting our environmental laws. Sen. Feinstein’s legislation does exactly that. It is the result of a lengthy process of discussions, negotiations and compromise, and California cannot afford to wait,” Garamendi said.

He added, “I do not believe it is enough to simply hope that Congress won’t make the problem worse. California needs help, and we need to restart the conversation in Washington about finding a solution that works for everyone.”

Sen. Feinstein and Congressman Garamendi had been part of a bicameral group of legislators working to negotiate a bipartisan solution to California’s water infrastructure issues.

Garamendi is currently recruiting additional co-sponsors for the legislation.

WILLITS, Calif. – On Saturday, Feb. 20, the Clear Lake Cardinals sent three wrestlers to compete in the weekends Coastal Mountain Conference (CMC) League Championship Tournament.

Both Isaac Lewis (154 pounds) and Jacob Pyorre (115 pounds) each came into the tournament as the No. 1 seeds.   

Lewis finished the day as the 154-pound champion, with two pins and an exciting come from behind win in the finals match to claim the gold medal.

Lewis heads into the North Coast Sections (NCS) Tournament with an overall record of 23 wins and 10 losses, with only two of those losses coming against an NCS opponent at this weight class.

Pyorre came into the tournament after a month-long injury hiatus and it showed. While he showed resilience battling through his first match, the mat rust was there.

In the finals match he would meet up with an opponent he had beaten earlier in the season, but it was not to be.

Pyorre finished with the silver medal and his opponent won the gold and was awarded the outstanding lightweight wrestler. This was his first and only loss at this weight class.

Since the top three placers in the CMC League Tournament advance, both Lewis and Pyorre will head to the Boys North Coast Sections Tournament at James Logan High School on Feb. 26 and 27.

Brandon Dickey (140 pounds) also wrestled a couple of tough matches in the tournament for the Cardinals, but did not advance.  

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Community Seventh-Day Adventist church is happy to announce that the vegetarian cooking school will begin again at 6 pm, Sunday, Feb. 28, in the fellowship hall.

Classes are free and samples will be available.
