LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — The Clearlake Police Department said there will be a temporary road closure on Lakeshore Drive on the morning of Wednesday, May 31.

The closure, which will be in the area of Olympic Drive to Pomo Drive, will take place from 9 to 10 a.m.

The southbound lane will be open to one-way traffic only.

Pomo Road from Lakeshore to Arrowhead also will be closed during this time, officials said.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. — On Saturday, May 27, the Konocti Bay Sailing Club will hold a sailing swap meet at Braito’s Marina.

The swap meet will take place from 9 to 11 a.m.

Members will be bringing used but serviceable sailing gear and equipment, lines and hardware they’ve gathered over the years to swap, sell, trade or donate.

Use this opportunity to get your boat in shape for the season and also meet the dedicated sailors of the club.

The club will be getting rid of old inventory as well, including regatta shirts and other club apparel.

Club members also can offer advice on rigging, restoring and other general sailing knowledge to make your experiences on the water more fun. If you have gear, lines or clothing, bring your stuff down. It’s free.

Because of parking space issues, please don’t bring any boats to Braito’s Marina to sell. Write something up and maybe a few pictures as there may be visitors that might be interested, but keep in mind, most KBSC members already have their own boats.

At 11 a.m. they will have a skippers meeting regarding that day's race. There may be crewing opportunities to join in the fun, no membership required.

The race is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

Braito’s Marina is located at 1555 Eastlake Drive in Kelseyville.

Duane Harper is a member of the Konocti Bay Sailing Club.

• Alpine County Park on June 3.

If you have any questions please call the Lake County Public Services office at 707-262-1618.

The Public Services Office is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — The Lake County Genealogical Society will present a tour of the Kelseyville Cemetery on Saturday, May 27.

The tour begins at 10 a.m. at the cemetery located at 3375 Bell Hill Road, Kelseyville. Meet at the walk-in gate on Lane "J.”

Starting off the tour will be a grave dowsing demonstration and instruction. This activity is used to locate bodies in unmarked graves.

Whether there was never a grave marker placed, or it disappeared due to fire or the elements, dowsing helps to determine if the plot is occupied.

While not as accurate as ground penetrating radar, grave dowsing is a less expensive alternative.

Older cemeteries often contain headstones which identify parent's names, but not their children. Identifying the number of children buried in a grave site helps a genealogist determine the number of family members to research.

Local genealogist Marilyn Guenther will conduct the tour. Wear comfortable walking shoes and a hat.

The 45-year-old nonprofit Lake County Genealogical Society maintains a research library of local families, along with other historic documents and is seeking a permanent home in Lakeport so the public can access the collection.

Until such time, research inquiries can be made to Anita Crabtree via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — May is “CalFresh Awareness Month,” a time of public outreach to increase awareness and enrollment in the CalFresh program.

CalFresh, known federally as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP, provides monthly food benefits to individuals and families with low-income and provides economic benefits to communities.

EBT is the automated system that allows CalFresh recipients to use a card, much like a debit card, to access their food benefits for purchases at grocers.

In Lake County, 16,507 individuals are currently receiving CalFresh benefits totaling $4.7 million per month, $50.1 million in benefits over the course of the last year.

Every $1 in CalFresh generates $1.79 in local economic activity.

Many individuals and families who need food are unaware that they may qualify for assistance. For instance, a family of four earning up to $3,007 gross per month may qualify for up to $939 in CalFresh benefits each month.

Spending benefits locally helps our local economy! Through the Market Match program, you can double your CalFresh spending power at our local farmers markets, that’s like shopping for 50% off at farmers markets. See the farmers market host for additional details, or visit www.marketmatch.org.

The application process is confidential. Your county has 30 days to decide if you are eligible. Households with very low income and resources may get benefits within 3 days.

Get help putting healthy, nutritious food on the table. Go to www.benefitscal.com to apply now, or call 707-995-4200 (TTY 711) Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., for information on other ways to apply.
