KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Kelseyville's annual Christmas in the Country event will be held on Friday, Dec. 5.

The fun will take place on Main Street from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Included in the festivities will be the 21st annual Kelseyville Parade of Lights, complete with the bubble machine.

Visitors can stop in at businesses on Main Street and enjoy holiday cheer.

There also will be a chance to visit with Santa and hear holiday music.

The event is sponsored by the Kelseyville Business Association.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The next HazMobile event will be held Friday, Dec. 19, and Saturday, Dec. 20, at Kelseyville Lumber, 3555 N. Main St. in Kelseyville.

Hours will be from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Households can bring up to 15 gallons of toxic items free of charge.

Fees will be charged for amounts over 15 gallons.

Items that are accepted include paint, solvents, fuels, five-gallon propane tanks, pool chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, batteries, fluorescent light tubes (up to 60 linear feet), and other toxic materials that cannot be put in the trash.

Items that cannot be accepted include televisions, computer monitors, ammunition, explosives, radioactive materials or infectious wastes.

HazMobile services are provided to residential households by the Integrated Waste Management Division of the Lake County Public Services Department and the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle).

Businesses also are welcome to use this convenient service to properly dispose of hazardous waste and protect our environment, however, businesses must pay for this taxpayer-funded service and first make an appointment.

Business appointments can be made by calling the Mendocino County Solid Waste Authority, the contracted agency that provides this service in Lake County at 707-468-9786.

Free recycling options for residents and businesses:

Recycled paint is available to both residents and businesses at Lake County Waste Solutions on first-come, first-served basis in five gallon containers. Colors include tan, brown, gray and pink.

Used cooking oil can be dropped-off by businesses and residents, which will be recycled into BioDiesel by Yokayo BioFuels. Drop-off at Lake County Waste Solutions, South Lake Refuse & Recycling Center, and the Northshore Fire Protection District station at 6257 Seventh Ave. in Lucerne.

Used motor oil can be dropped-off by residents for recycling year round at a number of sites in the county. Visit www.recycling.co.lake.ca.us for locations.

Electronics (E-waste) can be dropped-off at Lake County Waste Solutions, South Lake Refuse & Recycling Center, and monthly at the Goodwill E-Waste collection held in Lakeport.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – A fundraiser dinner to benefit Lakeport Elementary School will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

The annual spaghetti feed, silent auction and bake sale will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Terrace Middle School gym, 250 Lange St.

Following the spaghetti feed and back sale guests are encouraged to proceed to the MAC where the winter concert will be held starting at 7:30 p.m.

All funds generated from the event go back into the school, so not only are you supporting your community but you will have a great night of food, fun and entertainment.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Hospice Services of Lake County has received a generous donation of $1,500 from Westamerica Bank to support community bereavement programs in Lake County.

The check was presented by Sinda Knight, financial sales officer, and Lisa Kline, regional vice president, to Anja Koot, executive director of Hospice Services of Lake County.

An integral part of the Hospice Services of Lake County mission is to offer grief support groups to people in the community to help them cope with the loss of loved ones.

In addition to eight week support groups for adults, Hospice Services of Lake County also facilitates specialized grief groups in schools for children who are grieving for a family member or a loved one.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Sons of Norway Vikings of Lake Lodge will hold its Scandinavian Christmas Open House on Saturday, Dec. 13.

The open house will take place from noon to 2 p.m. in the Galilee Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 8860 Soda Bay Road.

The annual celebration will include the Santa Lucia pageant, traditional Scandinavian Christmas carols and foods, and specialty items for sale.

The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Lakeport Senior Activity Center's conference room at 527 Konocti Ave. in Lakeport.

They will be planning for the new year, electing officers and delegates for the 2015-16 election cycle.
 
The agenda for the Dec. 4 meeting includes reports from representatives for Congressmen Mike Thompson and John Garamendi, Assemblyman Bill Dodd and State Senator Mike McGuire, as well as reports from the Stonewall Democratic Club Chair Essie Coons and representative from the Lake County Democratic Club Paula Mune.
