LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County Public Services Director Caroline Chavez, announced that the Eastlake Landfill in Clearlake and the Public Services office in Lakeport will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 24, and Thursday, Dec. 25, for the Christmas holiday.

The Lake County Waste Solutions Transfer Station at 230 Soda Bay Road in Lakeport will be closed Thursday, Dec. 25, and will reopen Friday, Dec. 26.

Residential and commercial collection for Thursday and Friday for that week will occur one day after your normal pick up day.

The landfill and the Public Services office will reopen Friday, Dec. 26.

Normal landfill operating hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

The Public Services office's normal operational hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Normal operational hours for the Lake County Waste Solutions Transfer Station in Lakeport are Monday through Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Christmas trees can be dropped off at Lake County Waste Solution, 230 Soda Bay Road, in Lakeport and at the Southlake Refuse Recycling drop off located at the Eastlake Landfill, 16015 Davis St. in Clearlake and Quackenbush at 16520 Davis St., from Monday, Dec. 29, through Saturday, Jan. 10.

South Lake Refuse and Recycling center is open from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily and Quackenbrush Buyback/Drop off is open Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Lake County Waste Solutions in Lakeport Buyback/Drop off center is open 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and accepts many other recyclable materials.

Lake County Waste Solutions and South Lake Refuse & Recycling will be providing for their customers free curbside Christmas tree recycling.

Cut trees into 3-foot pieces, place your tree in to your green waste container on your regular pick up day make sure the lid will shut.

Please remove all ornaments, lights and tinsel for all Christmas tree recycling. No flocked trees will be accepted.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Christmas decorating just got easier thanks to St. John’s Episcopal Church Thrift Shop where trees, lights and ornaments are marked at affordable prices so all may prepare for this festive season.

Located at N. Forbes Street and Clearlake Ave. in Lakeport, the shop is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

Thrift shop proceeds support St. John's community food programs.

Kelseyville resident Kathy Moorhead and Lakeport resident Janette Steiner are long-time thrift shop volunteers.

How long?

“Since the early 90s,” said Moorhead, “and my mother-in-law 100 years before me. St. John's thrift shop has good prices, and it's nice to get out, meet people and do something good for the community.”

“Customers tell us this is their favorite thrift shop,” Steiner said, “because it's friendly and fun.”

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – Shannon Michele of Cache Creek Catering and Lake County Wine Studio are presenting a monthly food and wine series featuring gourmet appetizers paired with select Lake County wines.

Locally produced foods are proudly featured as key ingredients in recipes created by Cache Creek Catering.

The series is held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on the second Friday of each month.

The per-person cost is $30 and $25 for wine studio club members. Reservations are required.

Dec. 12 will feature Lake County Tempranillos and a winter warm up menu.

The aperitif will be a taste of Lavender Blue Petite Sirah with spicy holiday party mix.

The salad course will be warmed greens with roasted tomato, bacon and aged goat cheese paired with Red Lava Tempranillo, followed by Portobello mushroom stuffed with Spanish picada and Iberico cheese paired with Tejada Tempranillo.

The third course will be flatbread with roasted red bell peppers, sweet onion, eggplant and smoked paprika with Manchego cheese paired with Don Angel Cellars Tempranillo. The sweet ending with be chocolate almond bark.

Lake County Wine Studio is both a gallery for display of arts and a tasting room, wine bar and retail shop for the fine wines of Lake County.

Artists' shows are held on a monthly basis with art and wine receptions held the first Friday and subsequent Saturday of each month except January.

The gallery is located at 9505 Main St. in Upper Lake. It is open Mondays, 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 7 p.m.; and Fridays from 1 to 8 p.m.

The art show on display for the months of December and January is woven tapestries by Sheila O'Hara.

Holiday closures are Dec. 25 and 31, and Jan. 1 to 15.

The Courthouse Museum in Lakeport and the Historic Schoolhouse Museum in Lower Lake will reopen on Friday, Dec. 26.            

Normal operating hours at the Courthouse Museum in Lakeport are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday.

The Historic Schoolhouse Museum in Lower Lake is normally open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday though Saturday and closed on Sundays.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The University of California Cooperative Extension's Master Gardeners of Lake County will present a holiday wreath making workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Agricultural Center, 883 Lakeport Blvd. in Lakeport, a wheelchair-accessible facility.

U.C. Master Gardeners will show you how to make a wreath using local materials in a relaxed, fun, and friendly atmosphere. Materials will be provided, but please bring your own clippers and scissors.

No previous experience is required, light snacks will be provided and you get to take your wreath home.

There is a $10 materials charge for the workshop. Space is limited so an RSVP is required.

COBB, Calif. – The Friends of Boggs Mountain will host a holiday fiesta on Friday, Dec. 5.

The fiesta will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Little Red Schoolhouse, 15780 Bottle Rock Road.

The event is free and open to the public.
