LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Kiwanis Club of Lakeport will serve a pancake breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the old Natural High School site on Main Street in Lakeport.

Service will begin at 7 a.m. and conclude at 11 a.m.

The menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage or ham and beverages.

All proceeds from the pancake breakfast will benefits the Lake County Channel Cats.

The Channel Cats provide swim lessons and competitive swim competition for the youth of Lake County. 

They are responsible for much of the operation of the swimming pool located on the Lakeport School District property.

The breakfast will be held in conjunction with the annual Clear Lake Splash In.

NORTH COAST, Calif. – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around the North Coast during the coming week.

Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.

LAKE COUNTY
 
There is no major roadwork scheduled for Lake County from Friday, Sept. 26, through Thursday, Oct. 2.
 
MENDOCINO COUNTY
 
Highway 1

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance at various locations from Irish Beach Drive to C a.m.eron Road beginning Friday, Sept. 26. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
Highway 20

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Noyo Acres Drive to Forestry Station Road beginning Tuesday, Sept. 30. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
 
Highway 101

– Caltrans will perform slide repairs near the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge (near Frog Woman Rock). Northbound traffic will be restricted to one lane 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.
 
– Highway construction 1.0 mile south of the Haehl Overhead Bridge to the Haehl Overhead Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
 
– Highway construction from 0.8 to miles south of the North Willits Railroad Crossing to Reynolds Highway will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
 
– Bridge rehabilitation at the Arnold Bridge Overhead will begin Monday, Sept. 29. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., weekdays. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.
 
– Bridge rehabilitation at the Bridges Creek Bridge will begin Monday, Sept. 29. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.
 
– Pavement repairs from the Mignon “Minnie” Stoddard Lilley Memorial Bridge to Piercy will continue. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.
 
Highway 128

– Culvert rehabilitation at various locations from Clark Road to the Mendocino/Sonoma County line will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
– Pavement repairs continue from Philo School Road to Road 150B. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
Highway 253

– Culvert rehabilitation at various locations near the Soda Creek Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.
 
The Caltrans Traffic Operations Office has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County Mediations is pleased to announce that the Hon. Laurence K. Sawyer, a retired superior court judge, will be the group's October speaker.

Judge Sawyer, a neutral with JAMS – formerly Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Service – will speak on the topic “Ethics in Mediation” on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 6:30 p.m.

The event will be held at the Lake County Board of Supervisor's chambers at the Lake County Courthouse, 255 N. Forbes in Lakeport.

Members of the public are welcome to attend at no cost.

Lake County Mediations mediators will receive continuing education credits.

Mandatory continuing legal education will be provided for attorneys and paralegals by the Lake County Bar Association. The cost is $35 for nonmembers, $10 for members of the Lake County Bar Association.

Mediation is an informal and confidential way for people to resolve disputes with the help of a neutral mediator who is trained to help people discuss their differences.

The mediator does not decide who is right or wrong or issue a decision. Instead, the mediator helps the parties work out their own solutions to problems.
 
There also will be basic mediation training, which includes 28 hours of continuing education credits, on October 10, 11, 17, 18 and 25 in Kelseyville.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Public Works Department will have a road closure in effect on Thursday, Oct. 2, and Friday, Oct. 3, while it carries out tree work.

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days N. High Street between Clear Lake Avenue and 14th Street will be closed to through traffic.

Crews will be doing tree work and would appreciate the public’s awareness and caution in the area.

There will be detour routes available.

The department thanks the community for its patience as preparations take place for the oncoming fall and winter seasons.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Lakeport Library’s series of free book presentations by local authors concludes on Saturday, Sept. 27, when Marcia Bishop Sanderson, a writer with Lake County roots, will talk about her book “Images of America: Lake County.”

The talk begins at 2 p.m.

Sanderson will bring about 500 photos of people, places and events in Lake County that she and collaborator Maureen Garcia Carpenter collected for the book.

Sanderson and Carpenter packed thousands of years of Lake County history into this compact book for the general reader.

Guests will have a chance to browse through the pictures and talk with Sanderson about her book.

The Lake County Library is planning more events to promote and encourage local authors and will announce more details about those plans in a few months.

In the past, many local authors have donated their books to the Lake County Library. The library greatly appreciates these donations which make it possible to grow the collection of works written locally.

The dinner will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at DJ's Pizza, 16135 Main St. in Lower Lake.
