LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Horse Council announces the Annual Highland Springs “Earth Day” Trail Work and Members Potluck on Sunday, April 27.

It will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Meet at the Horse Staging Area inside Highland Springs Park at 10 a.m. to help with trail work, followed by potluck lunch and meeting from noon to 2 p.m., with special guest Gigi Stahl, Lake County Trails coordinator.

Bring your horse for a trail ride afterwards. Raffle prizes and the newest Lake County Horse Council Journal will be available.

LUCERNE, Calif. – Third water monitoring event for Lake County using the World Water Challenge monitoring kits will take place in Lucerne this Saturday, April 26.

The testing will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at Lucerne Harbor Park, 6225 E. Highway 20.

The hands-on collecting of samples and testing is open to the public of all ages.

This educational event will include a discussion of water quality issues.

NORTH COAST, Calif. – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around the North Coast during the coming week.

Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.

LAKE COUNTY

Highway 175

– AT&T of Santa Rosa has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility repairs 0.4 mile east of the Putah Creek Bridge through Friday, April 25. Work hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– PG&E of Eureka has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility repairs from Santa Rosa Avenue to the Dry Creek Bridge on Tuesday, April 29, and Wednesday, April 30. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

MENDOCINO COUNTY

Highway 1

– Replacement of the Greenwood Creek Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Replacement of a culvert with a bridge at Dunn Creek will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– PG&E of Eureka has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility repairs at the Salmon Creek Bridge beginning Thursday, May 1. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Highway 20

– Sidewalk enhancements from the junction of Routes 1/20 and Boatyard Drive will begin on Monday, April 28. Work hours are 9 a.m. to noon. Intermittent full road closures will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

Highway 101

– Caltrans will perform slide repairs near the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge (near Frog Woman Rock). Northbound traffic will be restricted to one lane 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– Bridge rehabilitation at the "green" Russian River Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekdays. One way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

– PG&E of Eureka has been issued a Caltrans Encroachment permit for utility repairs near the Hopland CAL FIRE station on Thursday, May 1. Nighttime work hours are 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Intermittent full road closures will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays.

– Highway construction from 1.0 mile south of the Haehl Overhead Bridge to the Haehl Overhead Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. A shoulder closure will be in effect. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– Highway construction from 0.8 to 1.5 miles south of the North Willits Railroad Crossing will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Highway 162

– Bridge rehabilitation at the Rodeo Creek Bridge will continue. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Highway 175

– Bridge rehabilitation at the Russian River Bridge will continue through Friday, April 25. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., weekdays. One way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

The Caltrans Traffic Operations Office has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above.

SACRAMENTO – Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. on Wednesday announced the appointment of Jodi Remke as chairperson of the California Fair Political Practices Commission.

Remke, 48, of Oakland, has been presiding judge at the State Bar Court of California since 2006, where she was hearing judge from 2000 to 2006.

She was an attorney with the California State Senate Judiciary Committee from 1997 to 2000, at the Montana Legal Services Association from 1994 to 1996 and at Miller Starr and Regalia from 1991 to 1994. Remke is board president of the National Council of Lawyer Disciplinary Boards.

She earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.

This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $136,144.

Remke is a Democrat.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. – The Lake County Democratic Central Committee regular monthly meeting is being held on Thursday, May 1.
