LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Who will speak for you?

If you have an unexpected accident or contract a serious illness, how do you know that your health care wishes will be followed?

Eighty-two percent of people say it’s important to put their wishes in writing, yet only 23 percent have actually done it.   

Free presentations on the importance of having an advanced health care directive are scheduled at three Lake County senior centers in May and June.  

Forms and assistance to write your wishes about how you want to be treated if you can’t speak for yourself will be provided by Hospice Services of Lake County’s social workers.

The presentations are open to the public.

• Lakeport: Noon, Wednesday, May 15, at the Lakeport Senior Center, 527 Konocti Ave.
• Lucerne: 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 17, at the Lucerne Alpine Senior Center, 3985 Country Club Drive.
• Middletown: Noon, Wednesday, June 5, at the Middletown Senior Center, 21256 Washington Ave.

NORTH COAST – Caltrans reports that the following road projects will be taking place around the North Coast during the coming week.

Included are Mendocino County projects that may impact Lake County commuters.

LAKE COUNTY

Highway 20

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from the Mendocino County line to the junction of Routes 20/53 beginning Tuesday, May 7. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

– Construction of a roundabout at the Route 20/Nice-Lucerne Cutoff Road intersection will continue through Friday, May 3. Work hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Granite Construction Inc. of Ukiah.

Highway 53

– Highway widening and rehabilitation from 40th Avenue to the junction of Routes 20/53 will continue. Work hours are 8 p.m. Sunday evening though 3 p.m. Friday afternoon, 24 hours per day. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – Teichert Construction of Davis.

MENDOCINO COUNTY

Highway 1

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from Curley Lane to Mallo Pass Creek through Friday, May 3. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

– Replacement of the Greenwood Creek Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Golden State Bridge Inc. of Martinez.

– Slipout repairs 1.6 miles south of Navarro Bluff Road will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Green Right O'Way Constructors of Willits.

– Bridge painting at the Salmon Creek Bridge and the Albion River Bridge will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Jeffco Painting and Coating of Vallejo.

– Metal beam guardrail repair at various locations from Abalobadiah Creek to Pacific Avenue South will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Coral Construction of Wilsonville.

– Replacement of a culvert with a bridge at Dunn Creek will continue. One-way traffic control with a temporary signal will be in effect 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Shasta Construction of Redding.

Highway 20

– Metal beam guardrail repair at various locations from Road 350 to Willits Cemetery Road will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Coral Construction of Wilsonville.

– A pavement repair project from 1.4 miles west of Little Lake Road to Three Chop Road will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 15-minute delays. Contractor – Argonaut Constructors of Santa Rosa.

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance from the southern junction of Routes 20/101 and the Lake County line beginning Tuesday, May 7. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance at the Russian River Overhead on Wednesday, May 8. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

Highway 101

– Caltrans will perform slide repairs near the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge (near Frog Woman Rock). Northbound traffic will be restricted to one lane 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– Destination Hopland has been granted a Caltrans Encroachment Permit to hold the Hopland Passport event from 0.2 mile south of East Side Road to 0.3 mile south of the CAL FIRE station on Saturday and Sunday, May 4 and 5, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Brief intermittent closures will be in effect to allow for pedestrian crossing. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance at the Feliz Creek Bridge on Tuesday, May 7. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays.

– Caltrans will perform routine maintenance at the North State Street Undercrossing on Monday, May 6. Work hours are 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.. Northbound traffic will be restricted to one lane. Motorists may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

– Vegetation removal just south of the Haehl Overhead Bridge will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – DeSilva Gates Construction of Dublin.

– Vegetation removal just south of the railroad crossing will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays. Contractor – DeSilva Gates Construction of Dublin.

Highway 162

– Metal beam guardrail repair at various locations from the junction or Routes 101/162 to Eberle Street will continue. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should anticipate five-minute delays. Contractor – Coral Construction of Wilsonville.

Work on all these projects is weather permitting and subject to change. Caltrans advises motorists to drive with caution when approaching work areas and to be prepared to stop at traffic control stations.

The Caltrans Traffic Operations Office has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes, unless noted otherwise above.

NICE, Calif. – Come share in an evening of great food and music with the Sons of Italy on Saturday, May 18.

The couple will prepare and donate a fantastic Italian dinner of homemade chicken and turkey Cannelloni Alfredo, vegetables, salad, dessert, coffee or tea followed by dance music of the local band The High Notes.

The no host bar will open at 5 p.m. and dinner will start at 6 p.m. Dancing will follow the meal. There will raffle tickets sold and a door prize, too.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Konocti Unified School District eighth graders will bag groceries as part of a fundraiser in Clearlake Friday, May 10, through Sunday, May 12.

The fundraiser will be held at Ray’s Food Place in Clearlake, 15930 Dam Road.

They also will collect carts and load groceries into vehicles.

All funds raised go to the Lower Lake High School class of 2017.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Kelseyville Lions Club is hosting a pancake breakfast to benefit the Clear Lake/Kelseyville high school swim team and the Lake County Channel Cats.  

The event takes place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday, May 12, at 4335 Sylar Lane in Kelseyville.

In addition to pancakes, breakfast includes choices of ham, sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, juice and coffee for a cost of $7 per person.  

Come and dive into this hearty breakfast while supporting these energetic athletes.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Southshore Little League will bring “Jamboree on the Diamond” to the Redbud ballfields in Clearlake this Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event will offer lots of fun for the entire family – carnival games, bounce house, dunk tank, smash a car with a sledge, face painting, tri-tip barbecue, snow cones, vendor booths and prizes.

They will sponsor a Major League Baseball pitch, hit and run competition. Winners go on to the next round with potential to compete at the MLB All-Star game later this summer. The cost for the competition is just 25 cents per ticket.

There will be a raffle for a used car at a cost of $5 per ticket. The drawing will take place on June 1 at the closing ceremonies.
