LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Three father-daughter dances are planned around the county in February.

The 11th annual Father-Daughter Dance in Kelseyville will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Kelseyville Presbyterian Church.  

There will be two dances again this year, the first from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and the second starting at 8 p.m.

New for 2013 will be the inaugural South Lake County Father-Daughter Dance on Sunday, Feb 17, at the Clearlake Masonic Lodge, located at 7100 S. Center Drive in Clearlake. This dance will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
 
The dances all will be similar in format with each girl receiving a long-stem red carnation, a 5 inch by 7 inch photo with their date, plenty of dancing and punch and cookies.

Tickets are $25 and $5 for each extra daughter to cover the additional flower and photo costs.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Branch 168 of the Sons In Retirement (SIR) held the first meeting of 2013 in the banquet room at Konocti Vista Casino.  

Big Sir Dean Faris announced that the February luncheon will be a celebration of Valentine’s Day and members’ wives or significant others are not only invited but SIRs will pick up the cost of their meal. Jim Cary will be the DJ and provide music for easy listening and dancing.

Faris also reported that there is a wide range of activities on the drawing board for the coming year.

Cary, the golf chairman for branch 133 and 168, distributed the 2013 golf schedule. Starting April 10 and continuing thru Nov. 6, there will be local tournaments just about every other week.

In addition, there will be two out of town tournaments. The first will be in Reno June 11-13, and the second takes place in Monterey Sept. 24-26. The award for most improved golfer of 2012 went to Ken Hommer, who the club congratulated on his achievement.

Bob Specht, the travel chair, announced that the snow train was a sellout and talked about some of the upcoming trips including plans to visit the Terracotta Warriors exhibit in San Francisco, a day at the races, and a trip to Palm Springs.

The Palm Springs trip will include the “Fabulous Follies,”, a visit to the Military Air Museum, a ride on the aerial tram and, of course, an optional round of golf. Specht said he is also working on several other trips.

Sons In Retirement is a social organization for men of retirement age who are pursuing the goal of enjoying their later years. It has 142 branches with 18,000 members throughout the state.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Enhanced Education Foundation Big Band Dance and Auction this year will be held Saturday, March 9.

The popular fundraiser will be held at the National Guard Armory, 1431 Hoyt Ave. in Lakeport.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

This annual event features the exceptional music of the Clear Lake High School Jazz band, a wonderful dinner and both live and silent auctions.

Proceeds from this event go directly back into the Lakeport Unified School District to help with many education, arts and technology programs.

Tickets are available for purchase at Linda’s Hallmark in Lakeport, the Terrace Middle School Office or any CLHS band member.

Individual tickets are $30, tables for 10 are $500.

NICE, Calif. – The Upper Lake High School Booster’s Club is continuing its efforts to raise money to be able to purchase and install stadium lights on the Upper Lake High School athletic field.  

The fourth annual Lights of Love Valentine dinner/dance will take place on Saturday, Feb. 9, to support the effort.

Upper Lake is the only high school in Lake County without stadium lights. Acquisition of these lights will allow the schoo to host evening games and to increase school spirit and pride. Future students will benefit from the ongoing commitments that are now being made.

The dinner/dance will be held at the Sons of Italy club at 2817 Highway 20 in Nice.  

Happy hour begins at 5 p.m. The buffet style dinner menu consists of tri tip or chicken and is served from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A silent auction will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. An indoor poker run will be played from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Beatz Workin Band will provide dance music from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Beer or wine will be available.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Lake County Rockhounds' monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 6.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Redbud Library, 14785 Burns Valley Road, Clearlake.

Archaeologist Dr. John Parker will present a PowerPoint on 20,000 years of Lake County prehistory for the meeting's program.

Annual membership dues are $15 and the group's next field trip will be Saturday, Feb. 16, to the Cache Creek area.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The second annual “Night at the Speakeasy” will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9.

The night of games and live entertainment will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Soper-Reese Community Theatre, 275 S. Main St., Lakeport.

Dress up in 1920s style and visit an old time speakeasy.

Play casino games, chat with the girls or watch the live entertainment. Enter the costume contest for a great prize and get on the dance floor to music that will sway your hips.

This is an adult-only event. Admission is to those 18 years and older.
