LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Fair Board of Directors will hold a regular board meeting on Monday, Jan. 28.

The meeting will begin at 4:45 p.m. at the fairgrounds administration office, 401 Martin St., Lakeport.

Agenda items include reports from the 4-H, FFA and NCRA representatives.

Action items include approval of the delegation of authority to fair Chief Executive Officer Richard Persons to sign contracts and checks with a value of up to $15,000, approval of a scholarship of Junior Livestock Awards totaling less than $200, the 2013 fair rental space rates, and a payment of $119,171.01 to PNC Equipment to pay off the solar system loans.

The board also will discuss board president committee appointments, committee reports, and the calendar of events for January and February.

CLEARLAKE OAKS, Calif. – The Lake County Stonewall Democratic Club will host its monthly potluck and meeting on Monday, Jan. 28.

The gathering will be held in the Clearlake Oaks United Methodist Church Social Hall, 12487 Plaza Drive, Clearlake Oaks.

The potluck begins at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting commencing at 7 p.m.

This meeting is open to the public and the community is encouraged to attend.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Rotary Club of Clearlake will hold its annual “Seafood Boil and Auction” on Saturday, Feb. 23.

The fundraiser will take place at Highlands Senior Center, 3245 Bowers Road, Clearlake.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner served at 6:30 p.m.

Arrive early for a complimentary wine tasting and a view of the silent and live auction items donated by Clearlake Rotarians and the friends of Rotary.

The goal for this year’s fundraising includes funding college scholarships for high school seniors, sponsorship of dictionaries to third graders, support of community projects such as Clearlake Rotary’s $25,000 pledge to the new emergency department of Saint Helena Hospital Clear Lake, the annual baby faire and support for the safe house for homeless teens.

The Clearlake Rotary this year will again host its free community Christmas dinner, serving more than 850 guests and providing a visit, gift and photo with Santa for more than 500 children. They also will offer a special Christmas dinner for the Meals on Wheels program.

The Rotary has been involved in numerous local projects including the Lower Lake High School Athletic field, participation in the development of Austin Park, projects involving the South Shore Little League, Big Brothers & Sisters, the Senior Center Building and Anderson Marsh.

The group has provided college scholarships for high school seniors with more than $235,000 in scholarships to date, and sponsored exchange students by hosting them in the community and by sending students to other countries for decades.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – Upper Lake Elementary School will host a presentation of “This Autistic Life” on Tuesday, Feb. 5.

The presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Upper Lake Middle School gymnasium, 725 Old Lucerne Road.

Hank Smith is a father and an educator. Ian Smith is an amazing yo yo player, juggler and math wizard, who also happens to be autistic.

The father and son will discuss the joys and challenges of living on the autistic spectrum, and how to teach children who face autism’s challenges.

Parents and family members of children on the spectrum, as well as parents of children with special needs, educators and individuals on the spectrum are encouraged to attend.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Chi Council for the Clear Lake Hitch will hold its first meeting of the new year on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

Council members will meet beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Lake County Agricultural Center, 883 Lakeport Blvd., Lakeport.

They will hold a recap of a public forum the council co-hosted in December on the proposed Endangered Species Act listing for the hitch, hear a status report on the listing petitions and make plans for the 2013 migration season.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – A caregiver support group for families dealing with memory loss or other cognitive impairments will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

The group meets at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 14310 Memory Lane in Clearlake from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Social worker Jenny Johnson is the facilitator.  

The groups are sponsored by Redwood Caregiver Resource Center (1-800-834-1636) and the Social Day Programs in Lake County.
