LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Lake County Public Service’s Director Caroline C. Chavez announced today that the Eastlake Landfill and the Lakeport Public Services office will be closed Monday, Jan. 20, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Residential pickup will be on there regular scheduled day.

Both facilities will re-open on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Normal operating hours at the landfill are 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.  

The Public Services office is normally open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – What’s going on in District 1 and the county will be presented by District 1 Supervisor Jim Comstock when he gives his annual update at the next Middletown Luncheon Club program on Wednesday, Jan. 16.

The program takes place at the Middletown Methodist Church Social Hall, 15155 Armstrong at Washington, Middletown, starting at noon.

Lunch costs only $5 per person.

The Middletown Luncheon Club is open to all, meets every third Wednesday of the month from January through November, providing informative speakers and presentations to the community. Different local nonprofit organizations provide lunch each month and receive a donation.

NICE, Calif. – The Sons of Italy club in Nice will be host a dinner dance on Saturday, Jan. 19.

Volunteer chefs will be cooking a delicious homemade meal in the Lake County Lodge Hall, located at 2817 E. Highway 20.

The meal will include Italian pork tenderloin, potatoes, vegetables, salad, bread, and dessert plus coffee or tea.  

The bar is open for socializing at 5 p.m., dinner starts at 6 p.m. then dancing to the High Notes starts after the meal. T

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Fire Protection District will host a blood drive at its downtown fire station from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12.

The blood drive will take place in the fire station truck bay and lounge, 445 N. Main St.

It’s part of the annual Bucket Brigade Challenge to benefit Blood Centers of the Pacific.

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – The Middletown Area Town Hall (MATH) will hold its next regular meeting on Thursday, Jan. 10.

The meeting will begin promptly at 7 p.m. at Calpine's Geothermal Visitors Center, 15500 Central Park Road.

Under unfinished business, MATH Board candidates for 2013 will be introduced and elected, the chair will be selected and a date set for the joint meeting with the Middletown Area Merchants Association, and Hank Lescher will make a presentation about the proposed worship center on Highway 175.

New business will include board and committee reports.

The public is invited to attend.

MATH meetings are subject to videotaping. Meeting proceedings may be available for viewing on public access television and/or the Internet.

MATH – established by resolution of the Lake County Board of Supervisors on Dec. 12, 2006 – is a municipal advisory council serving the residents of Anderson Springs, Cobb, Coyote Valley (including Hidden Valley Lake), Long Valley and Middletown.

The group’s current board of directors include Chairman Joe Sullivan, Vice Chair Claude Brown, Secretary Ken Gonzales and members Tom Darms and Martha Webster.
