LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Democratic Central Committee will celebrate the grand opening of the United Democratic Campaign Office on Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Lake County Tax Service Office, 1210 S. Main in Lakeport.

The office will be open for business on Wednesday, Aug. 15, from noon until 6 p.m.

It also will be open 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and Saturdays, from noon until 6 p.m.

There will be Obama/Biden buttons, bumper stickers for a nominal charge and later yard signs will be available for purchase.

In addition supporters can pick up yard signs, buttons and literature for Congressman Mike Thompson, Congressman John Garamendi and Assemblymember Mariko Yamada at no charge.

There will be opportunities for supporters to help staff the office and make phone calls to battle ground states on the phone banks at the office.

Democratic Party meetings are held monthly and rotate from Lakeport to Clearlake Oaks.

Meetings are open to the public and committee membership is open to all registered Democrats.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Lakeport Cinema 5 will hold the last showing in its inaugural free Summer Kids Movie Series on Thursday, Aug. 16.

This week’s movie is “Yogi Bear.”

Admission is free for everyone, not just children. All the movies in the series are rated PG. There will even be a $4 drink and popcorn special at the snack bar.

Doors will open at 9 a.m. The movie will show in as many theaters as needed, as each auditorium fills up, the movie will be started in that auditorium until the final auditoriums start at 10 a.m.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Lake County Historical Society is pleased to announce the start of construction of the first display barn at the Ely Stage Stop and Country Museum, located at 9921 Soda Bay Road.  

This barn will be the future home of many of the society’s artifacts, including antique farm implements and a stage coach, as well as a functioning blacksmith’s shop.  

It also will become part of the Lake County Quilt Trail when the historical society’s quilt block is hung on the front.  

More history is about to be made and the historical society invites community members to be a part of it.  

The foundation has been laid and they are ready to start building on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 18.

This undertaking will not be finished in just one day.

The group is very interested in finding skilled workers and general volunteers to help with this historical construction project.  

Individuals and groups are all welcome, community service hours are available.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Child Care Planning Council will meet on Thursday, Aug. 16.

The council meeting will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lake County Office of Education, 1152 S. Main St., Lakeport. The public is invited to attend.

Agenda items include the master plan, meeting schedule and chair nominations, a coordinator’s report and an update on Steps to Leadership, and discussion on Steps to Quality informational workshops in August and September.

The council’s next meeting will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at Yuba College’s Clear Lake Campus, 15880 Dam Road Extension, Clearlake.

The mission of the Lake County Child Care Planning Council is to promote quality child care through community assessment, advocacy, resource development and collaboration with other organizations.

LOWER LAKE, Calif. – The Lake Community Pride Foundation will hold its annual meeting on Monday, Aug. 27.

The meeting will take place beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Konocti Unified School District Office, 9430 Lake St. in Lower Lake.
