KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Taylor Observatory-Norton Planetarium will be showing the Evans and Sutherland full dome movie, “The Mystery of the Christmas Star,” throughout the holiday season.


Journey back 2,000 years and examine significant astronomical events that may explain the Christmas Star.


What could have been remarkable enough to cause the Wise Men to travel across the desert from Babylon to Bethlehem?


This retelling of the Christmas Story is sure to captivate audiences of all ages.


Shows will take place at 7 p.m., 7:45 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 25 through Jan. 7.


Tickets cost $6 for adults, $3 for children under age 12.

CLEARLAKE OAKS, Calif. – Repairs will close a local bridge during daytime work hours through late December, according to county officials.


The Chalk Mountain Road bridge in Spring Valley will be closed for repairs from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 14 through Dec. 28, according to Lake County Special Districts.


Emergency vehicles will be permitted through while contractor CK Doud performs the work, Special Districts reported.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – Lakeport’s 26th annual Christmas Festival of Music will be held Saturday, Dec. 3.


The festival will begin at 7 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 600 16th St. in Lakeport.


Each year choirs, instrumentalists and vocalists from the local community present a free evening of holiday music to get the season started off right.


In addition to the featured performers, the audience will be invited to sing Christmas carols.


Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – There’s lots of warm Christmas cheer in store for families and fun-seekers of all ages at “Very Merry Main Street” taking place in downtown Lakeport on Saturday, Nov. 26, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.


The schedule of events is:


  • Lighted Parade at 5:30 p.m. from the Lake County Fairgrounds at 401 Martin St. to Main Street and down to Ninth Street.

  • Tree lighting by Hospice Services of Lake County in Museum Park immediately following parade.

  • Santa's Visit at Skip's Sweet Shoppe, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Free stuffed toy for each child and a photo with Santa.

  • Downtown shopping until 8 p.m. Free refreshments and entertainment at many stores.

  • Where's Santa's Elf? Hunt, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Elf is hiding in downtown stores. Follow his trail to be eligible for prizes donated by local businesses. Pick up map at Skip's Sweet Shoppe.

  • Historic walking tour at 3 p.m. Complimentary. Meet at museum steps.

  • Snugglers & Snacks Booth in Museum Park from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with peppermint schnappes-hot chocolate drinks and popcorn on sale.

  • Carolers and street entertainers from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The California Emergency Management Agency (Cal EMA) reminds Californians that the Federal Emergency Management Agency will conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. Pacific Standard Time.


The test will last up to 30 seconds. During this period, regularly scheduled television, radio, cable and satellite shows will be interrupted as the system is being tested.


Quick facts about this nationwide test:


  • Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 11:00 am (PST).

  • You will hear the familiar EAS tone, a voice say “This is a test,” and potentially see a message on your television or radio.

  • It will last 30 seconds.

  • No action is needed or required on the part of the public.

  • The test is conducted by the Federal Communications Commission, FEMA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.


Cal EMA, along with FEMA, encourages the public to use this event as a reminder that everyone should establish an emergency preparedness kit and emergency plan for themselves, their families, communities, and businesses.
