LAKEPORT, Calif. – The lucky winners of $500, $250 and $100 in cash prizes will be announced at Museum Square on Main Street in downtown Lakeport at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 21.


The “Shop for Cash” drawing is open to all shoppers who have purchased a minimum of $250 from participating merchants by noon on Dec. 21.


Participating merchants are Campos Casuals, the Game Shop, ENVY Tanning Salon, Healing Earth Gifts, Hillside Honda, the Kitchen Gallery, Lakeport Tire & Auto, Main Street Gallery, Main Street Gifts, Pieces Boutique, Shari’s Secret Garden and Watershed Books.

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The regular meeting of the Lake County Flying Saucer Club, scheduled for Dec. 25, has been canceled due to the Christmas holiday.


The group's next meeting will be held on Jan. 29, 2011, in the meeting room at the Lakeport McDonald's, located on Lakeport Boulevard.

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Kelseyville Education Foundation is hosting a dinner to sample recipes from their cookbook “From Kelseyville Kitchens” at the Kelseyville Lions Club.


The event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 11.


A happy hour from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. will include appetizers and drinks from the cookbook as well as beer and wine. Dinner begins at 6 p.m.


Each food sample will be just a dollar a dip.


The Lions Club is located at 4335 Sylar Lane in Kelseyville.

UPPER LAKE, Calif. – The 17th annual Upper Lake Fire Auxiliary/Northshore Fire Protection District Christmas Cheer Program for the Northshore areas of Blue Lakes, Upper Lake, Nice and Lucerne is under way.


The groups are seeking donations of unwrapped gifts and toys for children under the age of 17.


Wish gift tags are available at WestAmerica Bank's Upper Lake branch.


Choose a tag, buy a gift and return the unwrapped gift to one of the following locations: WestAmerica Bank, Upper Lake; fire stations in Nice, Lucerne or Upper Lake; and Pet Acres on Highway 20 in Upper Lake.


Cash donations also are welcome if you do not have time to shop.


Donations of nonperishable food, or frozen turkeys or ham also will be accepted at the fire stations or Pet Acres.


Canned food drives for the program are being held at Upper Lake's elementary, middle and high schools, and by various other organizations in the Northshore area.

HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE – On Sunday afternoon, Dec. 12, “Veggie Girl” columnist Esther Oertel will host a three-course English Christmas Tea culinary class at Chic Le Chef in Hidden Valley Lake.


The menu will include a scone course of cream and lavender scones, and lavender butter and lemon curd; an appetizer course of shrimp and lemon-dill butter tea sandwiches, and savory red and green puff pastry Christmas squares; and a sweet course of chocolate lavender truffles and shortbread cookies.


Teas will be paired with each course, and English Christmas traditions will be highlighted throughout.


Oertel will demonstrate the preparation of the dishes served while you relax and enjoy the event.


This is a perfect holiday treat for friends and family. The cost of the tea is $35, including complete recipes.
