UPPER LAKE – The Northshore Dive Team will hold a meeting this Friday, May 7.


The meeting will be held beginning at 7 p.m. at Northshore Fire Protection District's Station 90 in Upper Lake.


All interested personnel are encouraged to attend.


The training will follow.


The team, which operates through community donations, also is seeking help in updating its dive gear. Donations can be sent to the team at P.O. Box 61, Upper Lake, CA 95485.

LAKE COUNTY – The Area Agency on Aging of Lake & Mendocino Counties (AAA) Governing Board is currently recruiting for advisory council members.


They currently are seeking one member from Lake County and one member from Mendocino County.


The Advisory Council advises the governing board on issues such as developing the area four-year plan and developing and coordination of community policies and programs throughout both counties dealing with issues important to older adults.


Council members must meet at least one of the following criteria:


  • Be an older adult person 60 years or older;

  • An advocate of older persons;

  • A representative of a health care agency or organization serving older adults;

  • A person providing leadership in the private and volunteer sectors;

  • A local elected official; or

  • A member of the general public residing in Lake or Mendocino County.


Fifty percent of the membership shall be older persons.

Applications must be submitted by May 31, 2010.

CLEARLAKE – A Mexican dinner fundraiser for District 2 supervisorial candidate Joyce Overton will be held this Friday, May 7.


The dinner will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Silk's on Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake.


Come and support Overton and her efforts for a better community. Time is closing in and the race is heating up. Show your support.

LAKEPORT – The Quick Steppers Relay for Life team will host a car wash and rummage sale on Saturday, May 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.


The car wash is weather permitting and the rummage sale is indoors.


The event will take place at Umpqua Bank, 805 11th St., Lakeport.


If you would like to contribute items to the rummage sale, they may be dropped at Umpqua Bank this week between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Simply take the elevator to the second floor and leave items in the room designated. It is a great opportunity to do your spring cleaning and support a very worthy cause.

KELSEYVILLE – The Konocti Lioness Club will sells raffle tickets as a fundraiser for a Mother’s Day gift basket at the Riviera Market on Soda Bay Road in Kelseyville on Friday, May 7, and Saturday, May 8.


The ticket donations are $1 each or 6 for $5 for this exquisite, lovely gift basket filled with a variety of items such as lotions, note paper, candles and chocolate, of course. The lucky ticket will be drawn on May 8 at 5 p.m.


The funds raised from the donations will be used to send kids with special needs to special summer camps.


The raffle is only one of the ways the club raises funds which go to help the youngsters of Lake County. Many community members have visited the group's pear ice cream booth at the Kelseyville Pear Festival so you know how hard we work to raise these funds.


The Konocti Lioness is a nonprofit service club under the auspices of the Mountain Lions of Cobb and Lions Club International, a worldwide organization. They invite anyone who is interested in joining the club to stop by the table and learn more about why the club motto is “For Kids Sake.”

CLEARLAKE OAKS – The second annual Catfish Derby Cook-off Competition will be held Saturday, May 15, in the Clearlake Oaks Plaza behind Nylander Park starting at 11 a.m.


Everyone is welcome to enter their catfish dish.


Attendees will be able to witness the entrants cooking their dishes in the main plaza area, judging will take place in the gazebo.


Entries are still being accepted and you can find the official rules at www.clearlakeoaks.org.


Planned prizes include:


  • First place: $250, a wine package and a trophy;

  • Second place: $150, a wine basket and a trophy;

  • Third place: $100, wine and a trophy;

  • Most unique dish wins a trophy;

  • Entrant from furthest away wins a trophy
