The end of the grading period is here, and Barbara is working even harder to make sure everyone’s grades are ready for them. Not only is the grading period coming to an end, it was also the week of the Cabaret!

The fundraiser was on Saturday, March 8. A great many students volunteered to serve and perform for this event. The performing students included André Ari, Lavonne Pattee, Atlee Erickson, Cheyenne Taylor, Cody Oudeman, Jenna Ortega, Jah-Brela Parker, Jamila Parker, Courtney Monttiel, Amanda Conley, Sina Radley, Bryan Layne, Marquice Lamar, David Ochoa, Steven Negrete and Paige Savante.

Teachers also participated in performances, and even a Carlé graduate, Cy Passley. There were a great variety of performances including singing, instrumentals, dancing, drama skits and rap music as well. The culinary class made a delicious meal for all the guests.

We also honored a group of people that are very important to everyone at Carlé. We call these people “Guardian Angels” and they are citizens of Clearlake that help out kids that have hard lives for no other reason than to be kind. We gave them a table at the Cabaret and made each of them an award.

The Guardian Angels that Lavonne Pattee designed awards for were Tana Mulyca, Jim Heintz, Sally Colcord, Donna Smith, Tariane Crise, as well as Joel and Flora Moore.

On Feb. 27, women from an advance leadership seminar at High Valley Ranch came to help our school. In thanks for this service, Pegasus Productions, made 81 thank yous for each of the women that worked that day. On March 3 Ashley Boyer presented each of her portfolio, and on March 4 Chris Grant presented his portfolio.

All the events in the past week are what made this one of the most exciting grading period conclusions of the year. Thank you for reading, and have a great week!

LAKEPORT – Robert Fulghum coined the phrase, “All I really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be, I learned in kindergarten.”

At Konocti Christian Academy, they take that seriously. Five- and 6-year-old children love exploring and discovering new things, so the school makes this possible for them. The world is exciting for them and the school cannot wait to help them understand it.

Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Jenny Irwin is thrilled about all of the exciting things that are planned for the 2008-09 school year.

The school is planning a challenging full-day and half-day academic program, a small class size, abundant hands-on activities and a loving, structured atmosphere to teach students all they really need to know.

You can visit the school's kindergarten classroom and preview learning materials at our Kindergarten Round-Ups on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, March 18, 9:30-10:30 a.m.

  • Thursday, March 20, 2:30-3:30 p.m.

  • Monday, March 24, 9:30-10:30 a.m.

  • Wednesday, March 26, 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Please call the KCA office at 262-1KCA to find out more or visit the school at 401 Martin St., Lakeport.

It was a great week for Carlé last week. On Wednesday, Feb. 27, more than 80 women arrived at Carlé in order to improve and beautify the campus. These were women taking the advanced women's leadership seminar at High Valley Ranch.

They worked the entire day decorating and building onto our facility. They installed soil containers for planting herbs, vegetables and other plants. They will be building a greenhouse so that we can grow healthy vegetables to be used in our culinary class, or to help feed those who don't have the means to feed themselves.

High Valley Ranch is owned by a nonprofit organization called PSI World, which hosts seminars

all over the continent that educate people for their personal development. There are many basic women's leadership seminars throughout the United States and beyond, but the advance courses are given at High Valley Ranch, right here in Lake County.

So, women from all over were here at Carlé, interacting with the students and serving our school. I talked with Kathy Quinlan-Perez, who is a lead facilitator of the women's leadership seminars and executive vice president for PSI World, and she told me of how PSI World has been a part of community service all over the world. They base their community service on helping children, and they have improved the lives of children in places such as Thailand, Venezuela and even Egypt!

The reason that this leadership seminar decided to spend its required day of community service on Carlé is because the owner of High Valley Ranch, Jane Willhite, met with Bill MacDougall and decided that Carlé and its students are deserving of this service. So, everyone at Carlé would like to thank all

those involved in this great service to our school.

Congratulations to our student of the week last week, Kelly Trask. She has shown that hard work and

perseverance can bring you success no matter what.

Hope you enjoyed reading this week's chronicle! Have a great week!
