LAKEPORT, Calif. — The Kiwanis Club of Lakeport is proud to announce the fourth annual Lakeport Blizzard, returning to Library Park on Monday, Dec. 22, at 6 p.m.

This beloved community tradition will once again bring the magic of the holidays to life — complete with dazzling lights, festive music, and a flurry of real snow (well, not really) in the heart of downtown Lakeport.

Each year, the Lakeport Blizzard draws families, visitors and holiday enthusiasts eager to experience this one-of-a-kind spectacle.

For one special evening, the iconic Library Park Gazebo will be fully transformed into a glowing winter scene, creating the perfect backdrop for holiday cheer and memorable photos.

“We look forward to this event all year,” said Marie Schrader of the Kiwanis Club of Lakeport. “The Lakeport Blizzard brings joy to our community and offers a magical way for families to celebrate the season together. We can’t wait to see Library Park come alive with snow once again.”

The event is free and open to the public. 

Attendees are encouraged to bring warm clothing, cameras and plenty of holiday spirit.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Now entering its third successful year, Proud to Be in the Trades is honored to recognize the generous sponsors whose support is shaping the 2025–2026 school year. 

Special thanks go to Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Lake County Wine Alliance, the Buckingham Ladies Club’s Silver Tea, Lady Luck Ventures, and the continued support generated through Lady Luck Garage merchandise sales. Their commitment ensures that local high school trade programs can grow and innovate, providing students with hands-on skills that strengthen future career paths.

Proud to Be in the Trades exists to support and educate students pursuing trade-based learning — building a strong foundation for their futures and the community they will serve.

The program is sponsored by the Lady Luck Ladies of Lady Luck Garage, in partnership with the Lake Family Resource Center, a 501(c)(3). 

They collaborate directly with trade programs across Lake County, including ag mechanics, media, culinary arts, woodworking, welding, automotive, and additional career and technical fields. 

Each school is invited to submit a “wish list” of needed tools or equipment. A selection of classes from different schools throughout the county is chosen each year based on available funding.

Once selected, wish-list items are purchased and shipped directly to instructors, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and immediate classroom impact.

“We warmly welcome anyone interested in supporting this mission through volunteering, donations, school partnerships, or community collaboration. Your involvement ensures that local students receive the tools and opportunities that help secure strong futures in the trades,” the organization said.

U.S. 101 (35.8/36.5) – The Dr. Fine Bridge Replacement Project is scheduled in the Smith River area weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Travelers should expect 10-minute delays. LC#C101WA

Highway 197

Route 197 (3.1/4.5) – Utility work is scheduled near Ruby Van Deventer County Park on Friday, December 5 and Friday, December 12. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Travelers should expect 5-minute delays. LC#C197AA

Highway 199

HUMBOLDT COUNTY

Highway 36

Route 36 (4.1/4.6) – Construction upgrades near Carlotta are scheduled to continue. Expect 15-minute delays weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. LC#C36IA 

Route 36 (14.7) – Utility work is scheduled west of Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park on Tuesday, December 9. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Travelers should expect 5-minute delays. LC#P36BA

Route 36 (15.7/16.3) – Slide response west of Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park will continue. A full closure is scheduled for December 6 and 7. The roadway is expected to close at 8 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, and reopen at 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 7. Check Caltrans District 1 on social media for updates. Outside of the planned closure, one-way traffic control will continue with delays of up to 15 minutes. LC#T36HA

Highway 101

U.S. 101 (19.4/17.7) – Bridge work is scheduled south of Dimmick Road Undercrossing, extending toward Hooker Creek Road, from Monday, December 8, through Thursday, December 11. U.S. 101 (62.2) – Permit work is scheduled on the southbound Palmer Boulevard on-ramp in Fortuna from Friday, December 5, through Friday, December 12. U.S. 101 (114.5/116.9) – Sign work is scheduled between Dry Lagoon and just south of Orick. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Motorists should expect 5-minute delays. LC#C101GE

U.S. 101 (120.5/122) – Sign work is scheduled in the Orick area between Hiltons Road and Bald Hills Road beginning Monday, December 8. Lane closures will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Expect minor traffic slowdowns. LC#C101UC

U.S. 101 (129/126.1) – Utility work is scheduled between Boyes Creek Bridge and Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway. Lane closures will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Expect minor traffic slowdowns. LC#C101XC

U.S. 101 (126.1) – The southbound off-ramp to Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway is scheduled to be fully closed on Monday, December 8, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for utility work. Use an alternate ramp. LC#C101XC

Highway 169

Route 169 (27.6/30.2) – Utility work is scheduled between Rube Creek Bridge and Martins Ferry. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Expect delays of up to 15 minutes. LC#C169CA

Highway 254

Route 254 (3.1/4) – Emergency work is scheduled near Phillipsville. Expect up to 5-minute delays. LC#C254JA 

Route 254 (18.8) – Slide removal work is ongoing just north of Weott. One-way traffic control will be in effect. Motorists should expect 5-minute delays. LC#C254AA

Highway 255

Route 255 (1.2/2) – Utility work is scheduled near New Navy Base Road. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays. Travelers should expect delays of up to 10 minutes. LC#C255CA

Highway 283

Route 283 (0.3) – Permit work is scheduled on Eagle Prairie Bridge in Rio Dell on Friday, December 5. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Travelers should expect 5-minute delays. LC#P283BA

Highway 299

Route 299 (17.2/20.7) – Permit work is scheduled between Lord-Ellis Summit and Chezem Road on Friday, December 5. Lane closures will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Expect minor traffic slowdowns. LC#P299BA

Route 299 (23.5/24.6) – Emergency storm-damage repairs are scheduled between Redwood Creek Bridge and Chezem Road beginning Monday, December 8. One-way traffic control will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays, and travelers should expect 10-minute delays. LC#C299VA
