Middletown Community Methodist Church plans events

MIDDLETOWN – The Middletown Community United Methodist Church distributed checks in July to local nonprofit organizations.


Lake County Habitat for Humanity, Lake County Hospice, P.A.C.K., Eco Arts and Sober Grad of Middletown High School shared more than $1,300 in community outreach funds contributed to the church from March to June.


The Middletown Senior Center has been chosen to receive church outreach funds for July.


The church's worship service speaker on July 20 at 10 a.m. is Linda Diehl-Darmes, whose topic is “Where is God in This Picture?”


She is a longtime Middletown resident, president of the Middletown Merchants and Business Association and serves on the Middletown Luncheon Club Board and several church committees.


“Celebrating Family, Be Surprise” is an eight-day event planned for August. An amazing and uplifting gift will be presented on Aug. 3 with the message for the 10 a.m. worship service presented by Rev. Mariellen Sawada Yoshino of Fresno. The church's Hallelujah Hearts Choir also will perform.


Vacation Bible School is coming to the Middletown Community United Methodist Church during the first week of August.


The school will be held Monday through Friday, Aug. 4 through Aug. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon for children ages 6 through 16. Local children are invited to participate, snacks will be provided.


Pastor Wanda Celli is coordinating the program which features Habitat for Humanity education for children.


Kids and Moms’ Kloset is offering a $5 discount on purchases over $20 to all children who attend Vacation Bible School.


Aug. 8 will be “Family Night” at the church, starting at 6 p.m. with singers and musicians of the Clearlake United Methodist Church performing and inspirational messages from Karl Parker. Refreshments will be served.


A special event for men only will be held Saturday, Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. with the “Blessing of Trucks and Motorcycles, Dinner and Spirit.” All men are invited to this event. Those attending will receive a coupon for $5 off any purchase at Ferguson Cutlery, $20 off any repair at TAD Automotive and a FREE tire rotation and balance from Menzio Tire Repair.


The Aug. 10 worship service will be enlivened by McKinleyville Pastor Rod Bray-Findley who has brought passion and growth to the Methodist Church of McKinleyville. The church's Hallelujah Hearts Choir will perform.

Outdoor services begin at Galilee Lutheran

KELSEYVILLE – With the warm summer weather here, Galilee Lutheran Church is beginning outdoor services once again.


This Sunday, July 6, the first outdoor service of the season will take place at 9 a.m.


The church welcomes all to join them.

Church offers to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies

LAKE COUNTY – The Unitarian Universalist Community of Lake County (UUCLC) has announced it will perform marriage ceremonies involving same-sex couples.


"Our faith has always welcomed people with diverse beliefs and striven for social justice for all people," says Carol Cole-Lewis, president of the community, "We are an open and affirming community and support same-sex marriages and their families."


The Unitarian Universalist Association's Office of Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian and Transgender Concerns (UUA OBGLTC) works to foster acceptance, inclusion, understanding and equity for bisexual, gay, lesbian and/or transgender persons of all colors, races, and ethnicities, both within the UUA and in society at large.


In addition, Interweave, a membership organization affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association, is dedicated to the spiritual, political, and social well-being of Unitarian Universalists who are confronting oppression as lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender persons and their heterosexual allies; and facilitates the celebration of the culture and lives of its members.


The Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry, based in Sacramento, has been at the fore-front of the recent movement to win equal rights for same-sex marriage.
