LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – As the recovery process for the Robin Lane sewer spill continues, officials are offering UV water filtration systems to residents who use well water in the impacted area.

The sewer spill resulted from the rupture of a force main operated by the Lake County Sanitation District on Jan. 11.

Nearly three million gallons of raw sewage was reported to have been spilled, impacting hundreds of residents.

The city of Clearlake, which is in unified command on the recovery effort with the Lake County Office of Emergency Services, reported on Wednesday that the emergency water tank program is ending soon.

As of Wednesday, that program has installed 50 tanks, the city reported.

The recovery team is offering UV filtration systems to impacted residents, which it says is a “long-term water quality solution.”

Property owners in the spill area can apply to have the UV filtration systems with prefiltration installed at their home, the city said.

“The system will provide ongoing, on-site water treatment to ensure household water remains safe for everyday use and consumption,” the city’s announcement said.

Those who wish to have the tanks installed must apply by the Feb. 28 deadline.

Officials said the UV filtration systems’ installations will be scheduled in the order applications are received.

“Temporary water tank service is ending as we transition to the permanent treatment solution,” the announcement said.

Water delivery also will be ending once the UV system is installed, the city reported.

The application for the UV filtration systems can be reviewed and submitted here.

Officials also ask that those who do not wish to apply for the systems contact the city and include their property address so records can be updated.
