KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Kelseyville Unified School District Board of Trustees has welcomed Christian Villalobos as a provisional board member to fill the vacancy left by long-time board member Rick Winer.
The district had 60 days to fill the school board seat. If no one had applied, the district would have had to pay for a special election.
Villalobos says he applied for the appointment for two main reasons: first, to support educational excellence in his community, and second, to help Kelseyville Unified avoid the significant financial impact that would have come with a special election.
His provisional appointment will continue until the expiration of the term in December.
Villalobos is deeply embedded in Lake County education. He works at the Lake County Office of Education as the grant coordinator for Career and College Readiness. His children attend school in the Kelseyville Unified School District, where he is an active member of the Kelseyville Elementary PTO and his wife is a teacher.
He said he is excited to serve in his new role as board member. And, like all who serve on the board, he will recuse himself if there is ever a topic that poses a conflict of interest.
Villalobos grew up in Lake County and has supported community efforts, everything from sifting homes after the Valley Fire and organizing a toy drive after the Clayton Fire to volunteering in youth sports.
Before working at the Lake County Office of Education, Villalobos worked at Konocti Unified School District as a para-educator or instructional aide, a classroom teacher and a district employee working in finance. He also worked at Riviera Elementary for a year.
He is familiar with the challenges and opportunities of education from many levels and perspectives: from the classroom to the district to the whole county.
“I am proud of the strong partnership Kelseyville Unified has with our community,” Villalobos said. “I’ve seen so much positive feedback from teachers, parents and community members, and I hope to see even more engagement. I encourage everyone to take part in board meetings and be an active voice in shaping the future of our schools.”
He continued by encouraging people to connect with him. “Whether it's through my district email or in person, I am here to represent the entire community and to keep everyone's best interests in mind.”
His email is cvillalobos@kvusd.org.
Kelseyville Unified School District Board meetings are typically held on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. Dr. Peter J. Quartarolo Board Room, located at 4410 Konocti Road in Kelseyville or the Tom Aiken Student Center, at Kelseyville High School, located at 5480 Main Street in Kelseyville (as indicated on the meeting agenda).
