LAKEPORT, Calif. – A fire at a lakeside RV park in Lakeport resulted in a fatality this week.

Lt. Ryan Cooley said the fire occurred at Willow Point RV Park and Campground on First Street on Thursday afternoon.

Cooley said Lakeport Police officers were dispatched for a structure fire at 2:54 p.m. amid multiple 911 calls reporting the fire. The first officer arrived five minutes later.

When the officers arrived on scene, Cooley said they saw a fully engulfed fifth wheel-type travel trailer.

At that point, it was unknown if someone was inside of the trailer. “Once they started talking with neighbors, officers became aware someone was possibly inside,” Cooley said.

Lakeport Fire arrived to try to put the fire out. Cooley said they made entry to the trailer and located the deceased individual inside.

Cooley said the fire was contained to the one trailer, although there was some damage to other trailers and vehicles that were nearby.

A definitive cause for the fire hasn’t been determined, with the fire marshal still working on the case, Cooley said.

However, it’s believed to have come from the inside of the trailer, Cooley said. “We’re not looking into this to be suspicious in any way, probably an unfortunate accident.”

The name of the person who died has not yet been released. Cooley said they are waiting for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office to notify next of kin before releasing the name.

In addition to Lakeport Fire and Lakeport Police, Kelseyville Fire and Lakeport Public Works responded to assist with the incident, Cooley said.
