LAKEPORT, Calif. – With 13 albums, 100 shows in one year and over 380,000 miles on their traveling van under their belt, duo Four Shillings Short are making their way to Lakeport for a special March show.
The duo, consisting of Christy Martin and Aodh Og O'Tuama, will perform on Saturday, March 14, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Odd Fellows Lodge at 310 N. Main St. in Lakeport.
The performance will be offered for free.
The couple has been together since 1997 and officially started touring in 1999. Since then, they've toured all over the United States and Aodh’s home country of Ireland.
The Lakeport show is called “A Celebration of Ireland,” and will feature music and traditions from that beautiful country.
“March is the month we celebrate all things Irish,” they note in their show announcement.
The band will use at least 25 instruments for this show. When asked what their favorite instruments were, they laughed immediately.
“Our instruments are like our children, we can’t choose our favorite, let alone tell them,” they said.
They even described their shows as “not just ear candy, but eye candy.”
The two last came to Clearlake in 2016 for a show at the now-closed Corkman's Clipper Irish Pub.
What brought them back this time? Whiskey.
They were on the North Coast for a tasting weekend and came across Tamar Distillery. They were trying it and the owner’s wife ran up to them – remembering them from a show at the library in Mendocino County.
She told them that if they were ever up in Lake County, “we’ll host you.”
Christy and Aodh decided to take them up on the offer.
Asked about his favorite parts of performing, Aodh says, “the connection with the audience, seeing people hear certain things for the first time, and the joy of music.”
Christy loves “being present in the moment, channeling spirit and forgetting worries.”
In 2028, the band will be retiring and moving to Ireland.
Until then, Christy and Aodh will be making stops at their favorite places and the communities they hold dear – including Lake County.
Come see their St. Patrick’s concert on Friday March 14 (also, Aodh’s birthday!), and enjoy their enchanting melodies, authentic lyrics and beautiful sounds. Doors open at 6 p.m.
