Election 2026: Lake County races on primary election ballot finalized

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The fields for county offices on the ballot in June are now finalized, with only two races being contested.

The Lake County Registrar of Voters Office released the list of candidates after the closing of the filing period, which was March 6.

On the ballot in June are the judge’s seat for Lake County Superior Court Department 2, Lake County superintendent of schools, District 2 and District 3 county supervisors, assessor-recorder, auditor-controller/county clerk and treasurer-tax collector.

Only two of the races are contested this year – the county superintendent of schools and the District 3 supervisorial seat.

Lake County Superintendent of Schools Brock Falkenberg, who has held the position since 2014, is seeking a fourth term.

He’s being challenged by Airic Guerrero, principal at Lower Lake High School. Guerrero has more than 20 years of experience in education, having also been a teacher, coach, athletic director and vice principal, according to his LinkedIn page.

In the race for the District 3 seat, which represents the Northshore on the Board of Supervisors, incumbent EJ Crandell of Lucerne is seeking a third term.

Running to challenge him is Julia Carrera. A retired scientist and consultant, the North Coast native lives in Upper Lake. Her community service has included work with the Western Region Town Hall and Upper Lake Citizens Patrol, the Upper Lake Community Services District Formation Committee and Local Planning Area Committee.

Also running for the seat is Danielle Santopietro. A native of the East Coast, Santopietro and her partner live in Lucerne, where they are business owners and have renovated a property on Highway 20 where they host community events.

In the rest of the races, the incumbents are uncontested.

Those include Superior Court Judge J. David Markham, who has served since 2018; Bruno Sabatier, seeking a third term on the Board of Supervisors, representing District 2; and Richard Ford, who was first elected in 2014 as assessor-recorder.

Also running unopposed are Auditor-Controller/County Clerk Jenavive Herrington and Treasurer-Tax Collector Patrick Sullivan, both pursuing second terms.

The primary election takes place June 2.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this story incorrectly listed Airic Guerrero as principal of Middletown High School, which was his previous job. He is now principal at Lower Lake High School.
