LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Authorities have arrested a Northshore man for a Thursday night hit and run case in which he struck a man with his vehicle while fleeing from an argument.

The California Highway Patrol took James Ward Carr, 63, of Nice into custody on Thursday night.

The CHP reported that Carr was arrested for hitting 53-year-old Justin Aiken of Nevada with his vehicle and then leaving the scene.

Just before 8 p.m. Thursday night Northshore Fire medics were dispatched to a report of a hit and run with injuries on Collier Avenue and Lakeshore Boulevard in Nice, according to radio reports.

Medics and law enforcement were advised that the driver and pedestrian had been involved in an argument before the incident.

Sgt. Joel Skeen of the California Highway Patrol’s Clear Lake Area office told Lake County News that the altercation occurred outside of a residence on Collier Avenue.

The driver, Carr, “was fleeing for safety and collided with the pedestrian who was the assailant in the altercation,” Skeen said.

Skeen said Aiken was flown to Santa Rosa Memorial with suspected minor to moderate injuries.

Carr was located and arrested for felony driving under the influence and assault with a deadly weapon, in this case, a vehicle. Booking records show he was arrested about an hour and a half after the incident.

Lake County Jail records showed Carr remained in custody early Saturday, with bail set at $85,000.
