LAKEPORT, Calif. – A weekend crash involving a scooter and a vehicle left the driver of the scooter with major injuries.
Lt. Ryan Cooley of the Lakeport Police Department said the crash happened on Saturday, March 21, at the intersection of 11th and Forbes streets.
Cooley said officers were dispatched to a traffic collision at the intersection, arriving just after 2 p.m.
When the officers arrived, they found a young adult male lying in the roadway on 11th Street near an electric scooter, unresponsive with injuries, Cooley said.
He said an adult female was contacted on scene near her vehicle and near the scooter driver.
The names of the two individuals involved in the crash were not released.
Lakeport Police officers, with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol, spoke with involved parties and witnesses and became aware that the young adult male was operating a scooter and traveling south on N. Forbes Street from Clearlake Avenue, Cooley said.
He said the male was not wearing a helmet and traveling at an unknown speed at which time he failed to stop before entering the intersection of 11th and N. Forbes streets.
The male on the scooter collided with the vehicle of the female, who was driving west on 11th Street at the posted speed limit, Cooley said.
Lakeport Fire and Kelseyville Fire arrived on scene and transported the male to Sutter Lakeside Hospital. Cooley said the scooter rider was subsequently transferred to an out-of-county hospital for advanced treatment as he sustained major injuries.
“The male is still receiving treatment for his injuries and is in stable condition,” Cooley said Tuesday.
