LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Two people were seriously injured in an ATV wreck reported early Saturday.

The crash was first dispatched shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the area of 14683 Bartlett Springs Road, east of Indian Valley Reservoir.

The scene reports said there were two individuals involved, a male and a female.

Getting to them was a challenge. First responders trying to get to them encountered a washed out road.

The effort then switched to seeking air support. Dispatch reported over the air that the California Highway Patrol’s helicopters were grounded due to the weather – which was said to include light rain and patchy fog – but that a vehicle was en route.

Dispatch also contacted the Coast Guard in San Francisco, which also refused the mission due to weather.

CHP Sgt. Joel Skeen said the agency’s units tried to make it up to the crash scene but the road was too muddy and washed out.

Northshore Fire did make it to the scene and transported the two crash victims, he said.

Skeen said the driver was a male who ended up with a brain bleed and injured leg. The passenger was a female who suffered moderate injuries.

Due to the time duration between contacting them at the hospital and the time of the crash, Skeen said it is unclear if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
