LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Despite heavy rain overnight and into early Thursday, Clear Lake’s waters are continuing to recede.
Late Thursday night, Clear Lake’s elevation was at 9.55 feet Rumsey, according to the United States Geological Survey’s gauge on the lake near Lakeport.
That was after rainfall late Wednesday and early Thursday that ranged from just over half an inch in Hidden Valley Lake, to nearly an inch in Upper Lake, an inch in Kelseyville and almost 2 inches near Cobb, according to the National Weather Service.
Flood stage is 9 feet Rumsey. On Tuesday the Board of Supervisors closed Clear Lake to motorized boats temporarily due to concerns about boat wakes on flooded shoreline properties.
Officials on Tuesday suggested that the closure might be lifted once the lake level falls below 9 feet Rumsey.
The Cache Creek Dam late Thursday was registering releases of 4,130 cubic feet per second. All week the dam’s releases have consistently been above 4,000 cubic feet per second, according to the US Geological Survey.
The National Weather Service is predicting rain from Friday through Wednesday morning, with rainfall on Friday expected to total about an inch. Lighter rainfall is forecast for Saturday, with heavy rain possible on Sunday and Monday.
