CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Lake County Democratic Party held its 23rd annual Democratic Legislator’s Barbecue fundraiser on Oct. 8.

The group called the event “a resounding success” and thanked everyone in the community who contributed to it.

Keynote speakers were Board of Equalization chair and candidate for California state treasurer, Fiona Ma, and California Democratic Party vice chair and Los Angeles County Democratic Party chair, Eric Bauman, who enthusiastically addressed guests.

The club also extended its gratitude extends to the county's members of Congress, John Garamendi and Mike Thompson, for their attendance and remarks, as well as their generous sponsorship of the event.
Special acknowledgments go to State Senator Mike McGuire for his sponsorship and our Democratic candidate for Assembly District 4, Cecilia Aguiar-Curry.

Monica Rosenthal and Joey Luiz, Democratic candidates for Lake County supervisor and Clearlake City Council, respectively, led the ceremonies with style and humor.

Union partners in the event, the California Teachers Association, Laborers International Local #324; North Bay Labor Council; Operating Engineers Local 3 Unit 10, IBEW Local 551, SEIU Local 2015, Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake Building and Trades Council, United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 38 and Teamsters Local 665, attended and provided generous sponsorships for their members and guests.

Chatterbox Catering of Clearlake, provided the side dishes and desserts. The club thanked Clearlake City Council member and candidate Joyce Overton for their services.

Local Lake County businesses, Backyard Garden Oasis, Butterfly Skin Essentials, Clarke’s Collectibles, David Engle Hair Designs, Twin Pine Casino and Watershed Books supported the barbecue by donating to the silent auction. Their contributions are invaluable.

The barbecue could not have happened without the enthusiastic work of the members of the Democratic Party of Lake County.

Democratic Club President Rich East provided another delicious tri-tip barbecue. Celesta and Norm Deter, once again, organized and mounted one of the most successful silent auctions ever.

Finally, the Lake County Democrats wanted to especially thank all of its guests and each of the Lake County elected officials for your attendance and continued support of the Lake County Democratic Party.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Planning Commission of the County of Lake, State of California, will hold a public hearing on consideration of PUBLIC INPUT ON CANNABIS POLICY DEVELOPMENT AND PROPOSED ALTERATIONS TO CULTIVATION EXCLUSIONARY ZONES, VARIOUS GUIDELINES AND STANDARDS.

The planner processing this project is Mireya G. Turner, (707) 263-2221 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

The public hearing will be held in the Board of Supervisors’ Chamber in the Courthouse on November 10, 2016 at 10:30 AM, at which time and place interested persons may attend and be heard.

The Planning Commission may forward recommendations to the Board of Supervisors at the close of this hearing.

The retirement of Jim Comstock provides an opportunity for the residents of District 1 to elect a more active and effective representative as our county supervisor, one who is responsive to the needs and desires of the community, not just the large land owners of the district who were behind Comstock’s election and are in support of Moke’s campaign.

Just look at the debacle going on regarding the Wild Diamond Vineyard project. Lawsuits would be unnecessary if the Board of Supervisors had done their job in the first place.

My vote goes to Monica Rosenthal. She is a farmer who understands the importance of supporting agricultural jobs and preserving our rural quality of life. The people of Lake County want open space, clean air and blue sky – not development sprawl. She is, by far, the most experienced and qualified candidate for this important position.

Monica is also a small business owner who knows what it’s like to sign a paycheck and balance a budget. As our representative on the County Workforce Investment Board, she’s worked to provide employment training resources for local residents.

Most of all, I’m impressed with Monica’s amazing work ethic. No one will work longer or harder for our communities on the County Board of Supervisors. That’s why she has earned endorsements from such diverse community organizations like the Lake County Association of Realtors, the Central Labor Council AFL-CIO and the Lake County Farm Bureau.

On Nov. 8, let’s elect a workhorse who will represent all of District 1 by voting for Monica Rosenthal for county supervisor
