SACRAMENTO — The California Employment Development Department announced Wednesday it has awarded over $760,000 to the California Labor Federation to conduct employment services outreach to workers dislocated by the closure of Yellow Freight Corporation in multiple locations across California.

The California Labor Federation, or CLF, will use these funds to provide guidance and information on available job-related assistance and services to more than 2,229 dislocated workers represented by 19 California Teamster Locals.

“This closure impacts thousands of workers across the state of California.” said EDD Director Nancy Farias. “It’s imperative that we provide nimble assistance to these affected individuals as they navigate the support systems available to them.”

The CLF will use the funds to establish a team to work closely with the affected Teamster Locals to connect the dislocated workers with job placement services, and training designed to help them quickly reintegrate into the workforce.

Supportive services will be provided in partnership America’s Job Center of California, or AJCC, locations across California.

CLF’s team members will visit each of the 19 Teamster Locals to identify and connect with the workers needing assistance.

Team members will provide guidance and resources to ensure the dislocated workers receive the necessary supportive services during this transition.

In addition to awarding these funds, the EDD will also be a key partner in providing services to the dislocated workers.

Services by the EDD will include prescreening at the AJCCs to assess the workers’ needs, assistance with mass recruitments, orientations, enrollments, and targeted job fairs, customer service delivery and workshops, and other assistance as needed.

Funding for this grant was provided through discretionary funds made available to Governor Gavin Newsom in accordance with the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and administered by the EDD and the California Labor & Workforce Development Agency.

For more information about this outreach effort, contact Cesar Lara, the Director of Workforce and Economic Development for the California Labor Federation Workforce, at 1-831-444-5060.
