Lake Mendocino Dam control burn scheduled for June 24

MENDOCINO COUNTY, Calif. – On Tuesday, June 24, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in cooperation with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire), will be conducting a control burn at the Coyote Dam.

The control burn will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The smoke will be visible throughout the entire Ukiah and Redwood Valley areas.

The purpose of the control burn is to assist the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in removing the vegetation from the face of the Coyote Dam allowing access and visibility for the required inspections to ensure the integrity of the dam.

The burn will be conducted under very tight restrictions for the personal safety of firefighters and area residents.

If there are any indications that the burn cannot be conducted in a safe manner, such as high winds or local fire activity, the burn will be canceled.

Cal Fire reminds all residents that their safety is of the utmost concern.
