KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Robert Hairston, CMT, is this month's guest at the ongoing Companion Circles at A Positive Light Center for Spiritual Awakening, 6470 Kelsey Creek Dr. in Kelseyville.
The public is invited to join the social gathering slated on Monday, Aug. 21, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Hairston is a Deepak Chopra-certified instructor of Primordial Sound Meditation and the creator of Aqua Vibrations Floating Meditation, both of which are offered at Spa Solage in Calistoga.
Hairston has also worked as a certified massage therapist and esthetician for over 25 years in Lake and Napa counties.
Through a guided meditative experience, Hairston will introduce participants to sounds from crystal healing bowls that are intended to promote states of well-being, peace and joy.
"I have found that the combination of voice and crystal bowl sounds with gentle guided meditation are consistently highly effective in helping people feel a deep sense of well-being and balance," said Hairston.
Growing evidence points to the influence sounds have on the human body, including how it can support healing, reestablish the balance of vital energies, and promote good health.
Sound therapy is one of the branches of vibrational medicine, which uses the vibrations of the human voice and other objects that resonate – tuning forks, gongs, crystal singing bowls, etc. – to go beyond relaxation and stimulate healing.
In addition to greater feelings of well being, the clinical use of sound for health indicates positive changes in blood pressure, stress relief and immune response.
Companion Circles are monthly gatherings for those curious about or committed to a mindfulness practice and are hosted by JoAnn Saccato, MA, mindfulness teacher, life coach and author, and Joanie Lane, meditation teacher and director of A Positive Light Center for Spiritual Awakening.
The circles occur on the third Monday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
"I am particularly looking forward to this mindful exploration of sound for wellness," said Saccato. "Sounds are one of the most strongly influential sensory experiences we have as humans. Everything from hearing the sweet sounds of birds in the morning and our favorite song to the stark sounds of gun shots or loud machines has an impact on our state of mind."
Mindfulness is a scientifically supported health and wellness approach to reduce stress and stress-related illnesses, increase focus and attention, decrease incidences of and relapses with depression, reduce anxiety, reduce relapses in addiction, and aid in sleep and digestive disorders. It has been proven to increase well being, life satisfaction and happiness, as well as improve social relationships.
The evening includes a guided mindfulness exercise, question and answer period, social mingling and a guest presenter. Attendees are invited to wear comfortable clothing. Optionally, guests can bring a simple finger food to share. Tea and water are served.
There is a suggested donation of $10, though, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
