Mendocino National Forest offices to be closed for Labor Day; online resources available for visitors

MENDOCINO NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. – Mendocino National Forest offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 4, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Regular business hours will resume Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 8 a.m.

There are many ways that visitors can find information to help them plan a trip to the Mendocino.

The forest has a mobile tour app which provides visitors a self-guided tour of the forest, as well as photos and information about recreation opportunities and natural sites.

The app also includes information about fire restrictions. The app is available to download from the App Store or Google Play for both iOS and Android.

Another source of information is the forest Web site at http://www.fs.usda.gov/mendocino which includes pages devoted to all types of recreation activities and details about obtaining forest maps on the Maps and Publications page.

Maps can be purchased at forest offices or online through the National Forest Map Store at http://www.nationalforestmapstore.com/category-s/1958.htm and the Avenza Map Store https://www.avenzamaps.com/.

Fire danger is at the “high” level on the forest and fire restrictions remain in effect. Under the restrictions, persons with a valid California campfire permit may have a campfire only in designated recreation sites and in designated wilderness areas.

Gas stoves and lanterns are allowed with a valid campfire permit. Obtain the permit at http://www.preventwildfireca.org/Campfire-Permit/ or at one of the offices ahead of the holiday.
