LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – On Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, Eileen Rasmussen passed away at the age of 95.
Eileen was born in Yorkshire, England on July 28, 1924, to John and Edith Bailes.
After graduating high school Eileen enlisted in the British Royal Navy where she served as a submarine attack teacher stationed near the Isle of Butte, off the coast of Scotland.
During her time in the war, Eileen met Jack Rasmussen, who was serving in the US Army, stationed in Scotland. After being discharged from the Navy, Eileen moved to Sacramento, and in 1949 married Jack. They bought their first home in Davis, California, for returning GIs and paid $99 down and $45 a month.
In 1956 Jack and Eileen welcomed a son, and moved to Nevada City in 1970 where she worked for the Nevada City School District for 22 years.
In 2000, Eileen moved to Lake County to be closer to her grandchildren.
She spent many enjoyable years volunteering for Lakeport Hospice.
She loved gardening, knitting, oil painting, winning numerous awards in the local fair, and surrounding herself with family and friends.
She will always be remembered for her loving smile, her warm and compassionate heart, her honesty, genuine friendship and her determination to always be independent.
We love and miss you, Gramm.
Eileen is survived by her sister, Lorna; her four grandchildren, Kim (Jake), Kelly (Patrick), Leslie (Tom) and Reed; her four great-grandchildren, Kori, Lily, Liam and Madelyn; and her best friend, Diana.
She is predeceased by her parents; sister, Edna; and son, Scott.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Charles Kluge, aged 92, passed away on Feb. 6, 2020, after sustaining critical injuries in a single-car accident.
He was born March 14, 1927, on the family property in Lake County to the late Theodore Albert Kluge and Anna Kluge (nee’ Renker). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alfred Kluge.
Charlie grew up in Lake County, graduating from Clear Lake High in 1945. His family was poor as were many families during the Depression.
He worked hard all his life. He went to Santa Rosa Junior College, working his way through school as a mortician before being drafted into the Army during the Korean War. Charlie proudly served in the Army Infantry for two years from 1953 to 1955 in Alaska driving transport trucks.
Upon discharge Charlie returned to California where he married Frances O’Brien of County Limerick, Ireland. They moved to Boulder, Colorado, where he obtained a pharmacy degree and his son, John Kluge (JD) was born.
The family moved back to California where Charlie worked as a pharmacist in Santa Cruz, Woodland and Sacramento.
Charlie moved back to Lake County in 1980 after marrying his second wife, Dorothy Royal, to whom he was married to until 1989.
Charlie continued to work as a pharmacist throughout Lake County until the late 2010s. Charlie enjoyed working on his ranch with his close friend Trinidad (Trino) Alatorre. Trino worked with Charlie for over 40 years and was his most trusted friend.
Charlie also enjoyed having coffee, and often a glass of wine with his many friends throughout Lake County.
Charlie is survived by his son, JD, and granddaughters, Anna and Katherine.
He will be inurned at Hartley Cemetery in Lakeport. A celebration of life will be held at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary on Monday, March 9, at 11 a.m.

Barbara Joy Langer passed away in West Sacramento, California at the age of 73.
Born in Connecticut and raised in New York (Manhattan and upstate), she was the child of Rulka and Olgierd Langer, who both emigrated to the United States following Germany's World War II invasion of Poland.
She is survived by her husband, Barry Melton; her two sons, Kingsley (Jenny) and Kyle; and two grandchildren, Thomas and Conor.
After briefly attending the University of Chicago, she left for San Francisco, quickly becoming friends with many rock and roll icons of the time.
Those friendships led to her meeting, being courted by, and marrying Barry Melton, lead guitarist for Country Joe and the Fish.
Inspired by the many friends she lost to alcohol and drugs, she went back to school to become a marriage and family therapist, graduating Summa Cum Laude from UC Berkeley. She worked for many years at both Yolo Hospice and the Woodland Youth Services group home.
Joy, the name she used during the 60s and early 70s, was the very archetype of the hippie/counterculture movement. She practiced and professed peace, loved others unconditionally, and remained loyal to her friends, family and ideals.
She was a loving wife and mother who gave selflessly to all those in her life. She will be dearly missed by many.
Her family would like to thank friends, family and the team at Yolo Hospice for helping provide the very best and most peaceful passing anyone could hope for.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life that will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2020, at 2:30 p.m. at the Oddfellows Hall, 415 Second St. in downtown Davis, California.
